Comment | I would assume Montgomerie was named for a [Matthew Montgomerie](https://www.theglasgowstory.com/image/?inum=TGSB00290) (1783-1868) who bought Kelvinside House and the surrounding lands for development. He was a co-founder of Montgomerie & Fleming, a law firm and formed the Kelvinside Estate Company to develop the area.
The [whole tale](https://www.scotcities.com/westend/north_kelvinside.htm) is really quite fascinating. John Walker bought some of the land after Montgomerie died and built the Sixty Steps to disrupt horse and carriage traffic through the area which (oddly enough) adjoined a rival's estate. |
