We don't use it as a unit of measurement the way Americans do. We use "around the block" as meaning being experienced but don't refer to things as two blocks away or whatever.

A lot of American cities are built as grids of straight streets so block makes sense as a unit of measurement there. Our older cities have more haphazard designs so "block" is mostly meaningless as a distance. You could go ages without an intersection on loads of our roads.

That said Glasgow has more of the grid design than other Scottish cities, but we still don't use block as a measure. If you were stood on Buchanan Street at Bath St and someone asked for directions to Moskito, you're not saying it's 7 blocks that way, you'd say it's about half a mile up there.
