The car is in the lorry's blind spot. There's almost no chance the lorry driver was aware of it.
It's a text book example of unsafe merging, it's amazing how few people actually get up to speed before trying to merge onto a motorway. There's still at least a quarter mile of road left to accelerate on before merging in as well.
