There's maybe worse in terms of actual risk to personal harm, but for somewhere that thousands of people have to pass through at all hours of the day, right next to the main train station, it's beyond grim. Mind it's the first thing a lot of people visiting the city will see too. Dirty, grey, filled with rubbish, scaffolding at the Egyptian Halls, drugs being sold/done in plain sight down by the bus stops, alley ways that run off it closed (with good reason) and visibly grimy/rank. Completely embarrassing.
