TitleMoving to Glasgow for a graduate job, any general advice and feedback on my current plan? (And commute question)

Hi! Just graduated uni and got a job starting in Glasgow starting in a month (yes I should have looked earlier) and am looking for a place to rent.

I've had interest from a potential flatmate who wants to find a place in Shawlands or Pollokshields, and the area does seem quite nice in terms of pubs, restaurants etc and better suited for young professionals I've heard? However this person said public transport to my place of work (near Charing Cross station) would be 10 mins, however when I look at trainline it looks like it would be 30+ mins with a couple changes which I don't like the idea of. Is this correct have I missed some quicker subway connection that exists? I've also been told public transport across Glasgow is great, is this true? I don't have a car so this is important to me, so will look for a place nearby to a train station.

Right now I've mostly been on spareroom.co.uk as I was hoping to move in with an already existing flatshare or find other potential flatmates to find a flat together with, but this has not been as fruitful as expected - although I only started looking a few days ago so will give it another couple weeks. I've found student flats looking for another person but ideally I'm looking for post grad or other young professionals to live with. And although a studio would be nice as well, I think that would make me a bit anti social on evenings and weekends as there's only a few people I know who live in town.

As my job is near Charing Cross I've been predominantly looking for a place in or near the West End, as I'd like to my commute to be as short and stress free as possible (eg walk it on the occasional sunny day). I've heard West End is quite studenty/indie? But I thought this might be a good place for my transition from uni to working life and be in a place with lots to do nearby. Nearby pubs and bars and restaurants are quite important to me.

Thanks for any advice or tips on where to live, how to find a place, good pubs/clubs, commuting etc whatsoever. I'm slowly learning Glasgow geography by scanning google maps to prepare for my arrival lol
