TitleGlasgow flats - best and worst flats/blocks to live in

Hi everyone - I moved to Glasgow in 2018 after 7 years of living in Ayr. I’m in my second flat atm to which I moved straight after hard lockdown. Why? NOISE. I mean...oh my god. I know I am quite sensitive to noise generally speaking, but never did I expect to be hearing my downstairs neighbours TALKING and watching TV. I also never expected someone to have their living room under my bedroom...which started being a bit much for me after many sleepless nights, particularly during lockdown.
That was in a tenement building - I assumed that moving to a more modern building would provide better soundproofing structure since it’s NEWER and not built 100 years ago. Boy was I wrong. Luckily I can’t hear downstairs or upstairs neighbours at all, but I can hear almost everything that happens in my next door neighbour’s flat next door...Including his noisy floor.

This is why I thought I’d create a thread where we’d share our experiences about best and worst areas/streets/buildings to live in Glasgow in terms of noise. I’m not talking about noisy neighbours throwing parties - I’m talking about when you can hear your neighbour’s conversations, closing the door, or any regular living noises you shouldn’t be hearing.

My last flat where I heard 2 sets of neighbours (downstairs and later in lockdown my wall neighbours too) was in Cathcart at Newlands Road (next to Whitecart Chippy). Lovely flat, lovely area - bullshit soundproofing that ruined my mental health.
My current flat is in Partick, Norval Court next to West End Retail Park, modern building. Very tiny flat but I don’t mind. Sadly the walls are made of paper but you won’t hear upstairs and downstairs AT ALL which is amazing.

What’s your experience been and what would you recommend for the future flat-hunting for such noisephobes like myself? Also would like to add that I tried various solutions in my previous flat such as earplugs, sleeping in my living room, turning up my tv etc. Not always helpful when your neighbour has the strongest voice you’ve ever heard in your life.

I refuse to believe that there are no decent flats in this city to lead a DIGNIFIED, NOISELESS LIFE!
