TitleClothes Shops Considered Essential in Tier 4 Lockdown

Hi all,

I've recently been told that we're not going to be furloughed at the clothes shop I work for because we sell a small amount of homeware - plates, pillows and cheap tat and are essential business.

This feels wrong to me. We're in Tier 4, the highest level of threat the Scottish Government has laid out but because of the companies bottom line, we're still planning to be open as usual for customers. I imagine all the large retail stores TK Max, B&M, Dunelm, Primark etc. are doing the same thing as my place Matalan.

Tier 4 is above "Very High Risk" in Scotland and cases in Glasgow area are high. Clothing and what are clearly non essential businesses still going to be open it eems based on advice from the Scottish Assembly, will other places doing the same?

Matalan in England & Wales were shut for their respective lockdowns as well, despite the protests of the company because they were considered non essential.

Why would they be open in Scotland when in the areas that are Tier 4 we're supposed to be working from home where possible and staying home as much as we can. Isn't it encouraging customers to go out and shop if homeware stores (laughable that Matalan are considered homeware tbh) are all open?

Anyway I'm a bit salty about it because I'm worried about bringing the virus home to my folks.

Any input, explanations or opinions (dissenting or agreeing!) would be appreciated.
