TitleNeed some advice... I've just refurbished my bathroom, a plumber did it, and the kitchen flooded due to faulty shower trap, but I bought the shower myself, so he claims no responsability

Hi All,

I know there are some subreddits for advice, but the advice here is usually sound. I am a bit lost and I don't know what to do.

I had a new bathroom fitted as the toilet was leaking and it was all tiled in. I had bought the suite from Scope bathrooms. The new suite was fitted and today I finally had the opportunity to use it. As soon as some water drained in the shower, I heard some shouting from downstairs. Water was pouring out a light fitting. The damage to ceiling or house structure I reckon is minimal since we discover the leak real fast. Like 2-3 minutes max after starting the water.

The plumber came down right away and took a look- the shower trap was cracked and was draining right down into the kitchen. The plumber advises he will need to access it via the kitchen underneath to fix as the shower etc is all tiled and in place. He’ll need to make a hole in the ceiling.

Scope bathrooms, as I’ve now discovered have a couple of stipulations on their website. 1) all items to be checked within 7 days of delivery and 2) they will only pay the cost to replace the part.

However, I would stipulate it would be challenging to see the internal condition of the trap and now I’m going to have a massive repair bill because of it. Are scope bathrooms liable in any way?

The way I see it, my only mistake was buying the parts from Scope Bathrooms, and then hiring a local plumber (who btw was highly recommended, and we were 6 months on his waiting list, and now he's all booked up until July - I mean he's no cowboy, he's the guy everyone recommends in the area, and he's not cheap).

I say this is the only mistake because I expect them to ping pong each other, while I am 0% at fault, while they are. Either the plumber broke it while installing it, or the seller gave to me a broken shower (the brand is Mira, which as far as I know is a good brand).

I need to phone my home insurance but I am not confident they will pay for anything, since this is not an accident, and they don't cover bad work by a tradesman, or a broken item bought from a shop.

At the moment I can't use the shower.

I need some help because I don't know what to do. I don't think it's fair that I will end up paying like 1k all in all to fix it, when it is brand new, never used.

Thanks for reading this. This situation is stressing me a lot.
