Delays to services between Glasgow Central and Carlisle via Dumfries

Due to forecasted severe weather disruption is expected until the end of the day.

Train services between Glasgow Central and Carlisle via Dumfries will be delayed.

Option 1 - Check if a rail journey is currently possible..

Customers can travel on alternative routes.

* Local services between Glasgow Central and Kilmarnock/Barrhead.

Option 2 - Local Buses..

* Currently, we have not arranged for your rail tickets to be accepted on local bus routes as yet. We will monitor this situation as the incident develops.

Option 3 - Rail Replacement Transport..

* Currently, we have not requested Rail Replacement Transport. We will monitor this situation as the incident develops.

Option 4 - Consider travelling later..

* You might wish to consider postponing your journey until our service's return to normal.

The met office have issued a Yellow and Amber weather warning for snow and ice on Thursday 14/01/21. For safety reasons we have had to put speed restrictions in place which may cause disruption to your journey. We will continue to update you when more lines are affected by the severe weather.

Public transport should only be used for essential reasons, to comply with the Scottish Government restrictions. If your journey is essential, please speak to a member of staff or press the help point for further information.

Today in 1979 saw the birth of Scotland's first test-tube baby. Grace Montgomery from Lennoxtown gave birth to Alastair, the country's first "test tube" baby. The embryo was created by Prof. Robert Edwards with surgical procedures being performed by Mr.Patrick Steptoe. Edwards and Steptoe were also the team responsible for the birth of Louise Brown, the world's first "test tube" baby, born on 25 July 1978 in England.
