TitleSomething I've always wanted to know about CalMac

Seems like a really obvious question, so it must have been asked and answered loads of times before, but why does the Cumbrae ferry not go to Millport but to some random jetty on the other side of the island with nothing nearby? I've never heard a good explanation – all I can find is that the ferry used to go to Millport. It's not like there's much in it; the longest reasonable crossing to the mainland is about 4 km, and the extra inconvenience of having to travel halfway around the island to get to town surely outweighs the longer sail? Or is it that much more convenient to have a ferry terminal in Largs rather than Hunterston?
