TitleI moved here a week ago. Everyone I know is 300 miles away. What food should I try that I can't get South of the border? What else to I need to know?... Is there a Lonely Planet guide..... :-) ?

I keep going to buy food, (coz ..well.. not like I can go do anything else just now..) and coming across things I've never heard of, can't pronounce or that are *really* not what I expected.

* Bridie \[which I can't seem to pronounce\] - "What's in the pasties?", "you mean a Bridie", "um yes, one of those.."
* Crumpets - I've never seen a flat crumpet before but they tasted so good I ate the whole pack of 4 in a sitting
* A deep fried potato - but not a hashbrown, just a slice of potato..? no idea what this is called because I pointed, and after getting the poor woman to repeat 3 times I just smiled and said thanks.
