TitleThe curse of the ticking radiators!

The house I grew up in has had ticking radiators for over 20 years and it's been bugging me for ages getting to sleep at night. I believe it's an issue with pipes expanding and contracting and rubbing against floor joists so they make a consistently inconsistent ticking noise like a broken clock that speeds up and slows down as the pipes move.

Turning the heating off in the summer months is an absolute dream as the ticking stops - so I know it's the radiators making the noise. It seems like a pretty expensive job to fix as you would need to pull up the flooring to get access to the pipes and decouple them from the floor joists. Has anyone here had a similar experience?

I wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy.
