TitleGlasgow City Council - too reactive? Here's how to start changing it.

So I've been seeing a lot of hate online for Glasgow City Council, especially bin/rubbish collection and just general upkeep within the city. As someone who moved into this council area around 6 months ago I was shocked at some of the issues which are now getting beyond a joke.

How can we all make GGC become pro-active again? Simple, report stuff.

I've been talking to a friend who works within the council, who has told me that "no one in the council goes around to see what needs done, or what can be improved. It's all reactive work, lists of jobs to do that have been reported via call/website/app"

The council see things from an analytical point of view. They look at their spreadsheets and see that X amount of overflowing rubbish bins were reported last week, and X% were emptied within 2 days. Good work right? Naw. They only count or see things that have been reported. No one is going around, tidying, maintaining, doing their jobs anymore. Most public facing departments such as refuse, roads, parks, are all working to reports and issues that have been submitted by us!

We need to start reporting every little thing, download the app, and once a day just take 5 minutes to report anything you've seen that day. The council will then see the true scale of the litter issue etc and hopefully re-align resources to match.

If you don't think this works, every day for the past few weeks I've been reporting blocked drains, overflowing bins, smashed glass, potholes, and 99% of these have been fixed within days. As a cyclist, one of the city centre cycle lanes was submerged by water every time it rained. I spent a month cycling through this hoping the council would get it fixed due to their current stance on promoting cycling and issuing these lanes. I reported it last week and within 24 hours the gully was unblocked.

So download the app, favourite the website, get the phone number written down and let's start showing the council what the true scale of their issues are!
