TitleLitter this weekend in the west end - not your usual litter post.

I just wanted to write an oddly positive note about the litter from this bank holiday weekend we've just had based on my personal observations (YMMV - let me know). We all know the litter in this city has been a complete shit show for quite some time now. Kelvingrove park in the west end is usually particularly bad when a sunny day meets a weekend and people descend on the park to eat takeaway and drink before the rain comes back, and I've always felt a large part of the resulting mess was down to the council no being proactive with their bins in there.

I've been walking around the west end all weekend just because there's not much else to do at the moment, and I have to say, for the first time in a while, it felt like the council was on it. Kelvingrove had the big dump bin added before it had a chance to get bad, and I saw at least 3 or 4 bin emptying teams driving round the west end emptying the bins before they completely overflowed like they usually do. From where I was walking on Saturday and Sunday (Finnieston, Kelvingrove, Partick, Hyndland, Byres Road, Botanics - most of the west end) I don't think I saw even a single bin overflowing to the rage inducing level I usually do on a sunny weekend.

I know the clean-up of Glasgow is not something that can be done in a weekend, but I just wanted to give credit where its due (at least in the west end), because I feel like they actually made some effort to be proactive about the weather and bank holiday rather than the usual reactive mess that starts Monday morning once the seagulls have had their fill. If you're listening Glasgow council, keep doing what you did this weekend.
