Title	Do estate agencies have authority to check if your bank statements are legitimate or that your wage slips/proof of work is legitimate ?

Body	I am curious about this and all that comes up on google is the regulations the government has set out for estate agencies but nothing to do with the authority the actual estate agency has. It goes for everything that an estate agency has provided to them by the renter not just whats mentioned in the title. Thanks for you for any responses.
