Cancellations to services between Edinburgh and Helensburgh Central via Airdrie

Due to a fault with the signalling system at Edinburgh Park disruption is expected until 09:00 08/05.

Train services between Edinburgh and Helensburgh Central via Airdrie will be cancelled or revised.

Option 1 - Check if a rail journey is currently possible..

* Use the National Rail Enquiries real-time journey planner to check if you can continue your journey by rail.

* If you have had to drive to another station your ticket will be valid to collect your car on your return journey. Speak to a member of staff to validate your ticket.

Option 2 - Local Buses..

* Currently, we have not arranged for your rail tickets to be accepted on local bus routes as yet. We will monitor this situation as the incident develops.

Option 3 - Rail Replacement Transport..

* Currently, we have not requested Rail Replacement Transport. We will monitor this situation as the incident develops.

Option 4 - Consider travelling later..

* You might wish to consider postponing your journey until our service's return to normal.

* We have received reports of a signal fault at Newbridge Juntion.

* Our services are unable to operate between Haymarket and Falkirk and also between Bathgate and Edinburgh until staff have rectified the fault.

* Customers wishing to travel between Glasgow and Edinburgh can travel on services to and from Glasgow Central via Shotts.

* Customers travelling to Stirling and stations north of Stirling can travel via Glasgow Central.

The following service alterations will apply until further notice:

* Services from Haymarket towards Falkirk will be cancelled or revised.

* Services from Bathgate to Edinburgh Pakr will be cancelled or revised.

Today in 1947 John Reid, Scottish Labour politician, was born.
Elected MP for Hamilton North and Bellshill in 1997, Reid was Scottish Secretary from 1999 to 2001, and Northern Ireland Secretary from 2001 to 2002 . He was the first Roman Catholic to hold the post. Reid is currently the chairman of Celtic Football Club.

On 8 May 1945, V.E.(Victory in Europe) day marked the end of World War II in Europe. The Allies overran Germany from the west during April 1945 as Russian forces advanced from the east. On April 25, American and Soviet forces met at the Elbe River. Five days later, Hitler committed suicide in his Berlin bunker. At 2:41 a.m. on May 7, General Jodl signed for the unconditional surrender of German forces on all fronts, which was to take effect on May 8 at 11:01 p.m. Over 50,000 Scottish servicemen lost their lives during the conflict.
