| Body | I'm a third generation Asian (Pakistani) in Glasgow Southside. My family has been here since the 1950/60s, but there has been a sudden change in demographics around the Shawlands and Pollokshields area of young posh people and hipsters. I ended up meeting one from Tinder, she'd just come from Paris and was now in Glasgow (wtf?) -- can't say I had many travel experiences to share haha. Does anyone know who these people are and where they're from?
I see a lot more vegan options, coffee shops, even a new book store in Shawlands. Square park in Pollokshields used to be pretty dodgy but whenever I walk past now, I hear posh accents, there are cyclers, or some white girls skipping with their dogs. Years ago, I was hurled abuse by some racist neds around the council houses beside St Albert's Primary but I doubt that even exists anymore.
I know a lot of Asians who had a cynical view of race relations based on prior their experience but this is a huge change for them too.
This is probably the first time I've not wanted to move out. The entire area has improved massively. If anyone knows how this happened and how long it's going to stay like this, I'd like to hear it :-D |
