Hi everybody,

I have just recently completed an interview for a graduate program in Glasgow and am quite confident that I will be getting an offer. While the transition to Glasgow from Canada is quite simple for me, it is quite a bit more complicated for my partner as she would be looking to secure work prior to moving.

A bit of background on her:
- Works as a mechanical estimator specializing in sheet metal and HVAC
- 2 years experience, but no degree or qualifications.
- Strong references from her company and superiors.

We have looked at job postings and there appears to be quite a bit for more seasoned mechanical estimators. She is nervous that because of her lack of qualifications/credentials, she will have trouble finding a job.

Our anticipated moving date would be January 2022, so we have 8 months for her to take some additional coursework. We have looked into some quantity surveying courses here in Canada and also through the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (UK).

Does anybody have a bit of insight on what the job opportunities are like given the current pandemic situation? And what the industry typically would look like for somebody who may have experience in their field, but no degree or qualifications? Any coursework/certifications that you would recommend for somebody in her industry?

I know it is quite a broad question, but we are just starting to look into what opportunities exist and are looking for some insider knowledge to help guide our research going forward.

Thanks in advance, any information is greatly appreciated!
