TitleHow is North Kelvin/Maryhill to live in?

Moving to Glasgow this summer for a job at the University. A few nice and not terribly priced flat shares have come up in the North Kelvin area. One right by the Maryhill Tesco’s and another closer to the Firhill end. How is the area to live in? I’ve heard mixed things and am concerned it might be unsafe for me to walk or cycle back alone at night. Or is that an old reputation?
