TitleGlasgow’s cocaine problem.

-Warning in advance-
this is going to get quite deep and has talk of drugs and suicide.

I was on a night out last night and the amount of full blown coke addicts was honestly shocking. It was always bad, but I feel like over the last few months to a year it’s got much much worse. I’d say about 3 quarters of my mates have been taking it every weekend since the age of 16, but now I’d say about a quarter of them are now on it daily. You used to be able to get a laugh on a night out, now everyone’s absolutely wired, interrupting each other, constantly trying to get a hold of dealers. I was genuinely the only one who wasn’t on it (thankfully Ive never liked the stuff and stay away from it) I’ve seen so many amazing people completely wither away mentally and psychically due to cocaine. Close mates ending up like skeletons. Completely loosing the plot. Constantly paranoid, egotistical and violent. It seems to be absolutely rife in the city and not talked about enough. I’m not a statistician and this is purely anecdotal, but I honestly think the true number of cocaine users is much higher than the already staggeringly high number. I’m only 21, I know 5 peoples that have lost their lives to suicide after heavy coke binges. 2 of my close mates recently got into a heavy amount of debt and started selling it, they got caught and just narrowly avoided prison. Recreational use is extremely high but the amount of full blown addicts I’ve spoke to recently is honestly shocking. I feel like a line of coke is just as socially acceptable to a lot of people as a pint in this day and age.

What is the solution? Is prohibition really the answer because I don’t think it seems to be working.

I believe we need drug policy reform because theirs too many life’s being lost.
