So if I thought before was bad, now it's even worse! It's not that there aren't any affordable places, it's that there aren't any at all!
My partner and I have branched out further from Glasgow, and have been calling all agencies for any suitable flats and have either got automated responses or "we'll call you back" with nothing for weeks.
We ended up finding a tiny little 1 bed flat, and we are going to pay for it just a bit less than what we expected to pay for a nice 2 bed before the whole boom (and I mean really small, but at least it's something for now). But we thought that's fine, save £1000 a year! Only to come up with Band F council tax. £3000 a year for this shoebox where we hardly spend any time?? We are both young professionals who spend most of our time at work so this just feels like a kick in the teeth. (we were down the road at Band D before). And I would not mind paying if stuff was getting done! I had to change a spring on my tire because went in a huge pot hole at night that's been there for over a year (where's my 160 quid council, huh?). Bins overflowing because after numerous complaints the council can't provide an extra couple of them, and the response was that it was our responsibility to take our rubbish elsewhere.
Just feel so done. After the whole pandemic, just wanted to settle somewhere nice and start planning for future. But now that just feels hopeless. Only upside is that we won't be on the streets at least.
