TitleWhen is the flat market expected to calm the hell down?

Hey all,

I'm a graduate student coming back to Glasgow after a few years away. My fiance and I are from the USA, but I lived here for a year during my undergrad. As I can tell from the discussion that crops up here reasonably often, everyone's aware that finding a flat is a nightmare right now. Places pop up on the market and are snatched up in hours. We've been trying very unsuccessfully to find a place for awhile now. However, thanks to some good luck and my friend's very kind family, we've got a temporary flat that we've been staying in Drumchapel. It's not ideal for a number of reasons (distance, mold issues in the flat most significantly), but we can stay here while we look for other places.
Our parameters are something like this;

600-850 gbp/month

1-2 bedroom

Within walking distance of a subway stop (would like to avoid having to take 2 different transit systems just to get to class, like we're doing now)

Preferences to the West End, Finnieston, Kelvinbridge, and City Centre. Mostly due to myself being much more familiar with navigating those areas. Been looking in a wider range than that, but that's the goal/hope.

We've got good finances and a UK guarantor if necessary. No pets, not smokers.

I've got no sense of when things are supposed to calm down though. I've heard lots of explanations of why things are so particularly mad right now, and it's probably a combination of them. Do you think things will be easier in October? Or should I tell my friend's family that we should expect to not find a place until Nov/Dec?

Appreciate any input.
