Body | I'm thinking of potentially moving to Glasgow and had a few questions, I currently live south east england, been here all my life and to be honest I have little to no life down here and just looking for a fresh start honestly, everything is ridiculously expensive down here and buying or even renting just seems like a pipe dream unless it's a crammed houseshare, I'm 30 single and had to move back home, not the nicest feeling. Is Glasgow a good place for a single 30 something year old to develop a new life?
I am fortunate enough to be able to work anywhere in the UK from home, I earn around £1350 a month after tax so just above minimum wage, would this be enough to rent a 1 bed flat in a decent-ish area in Glasgow? I also have decent savings of around £30k so if I like it enough will look to potentially buy but I've read flats are going 10-20% over over HR! Is this still the case? I could only borrow around 90-100k for a mortgage so around £125k for a flat.
I'm looking at other cities too I.e. Newcastle, Manchester but Glasgow is top of my list at the moment, seems like a place I'd really like plus I've always gotten on very well with the Scots. I'm flying over in November and staying a week to see if I like it but yeah any advice would be greatly appreciated :)
Thanks in advance. |
