TitleGoing about Glasgow in the dark as a solo woman

Hey, so I’m thinking of going to Glasgow for a weekend in November for a bit of tourism (never been to Scotland) but also to check out the feel of the city as a potential place to live in. I’m from Belfast and gotten a bit bored of it, I want to move somewhere new but still not be crazy far from family.

Anyways, my sister lived there for a few months and she said to go stay near Great Western Road or Byres Road as “that’s where people live”. (I’m well aware that the whole city is inhabited, I think she meant it would be a nice area to live in.) Not too many hotels out that direction, seem to be more in the city centre but she said 1. It can be dodgy after dark and 2. It would be especially dodgy having to go under the overpass at dark if I wanted to go between the areas. Is that really true? Like even in winter when it gets dark before dinner? I don’t mind playing it safe post 9pm and heading back to my hotel, but I do want to explore the city in the early evening.

On a related note - anyone know any hotels that would have a decent cafe/bar to retreat to?
