TitleLooking for a 2 bed with a baby on the way... Which area?

My partner and I currently share a small (owned) one bed tenement flat in Shawlands, with our lurcher and cat. We're expecting our first child in November, and with it already being a bit of a squeeze we're thinking that we may need to move for more space.

This makes me a bit sad as I love living in Shawlands, for the general atmosphere around the place, but particularly the parks, the bakeries and cafes and on occasion the pubs.

Unfortunately with house prices going so crazy over the past 2 years, we're increasingly being priced out of being able to stay around the part of the Southside we love (Shawlands, Battlefield, Mount Florida etc), so are considering our options, and we wonder if anyone else has faced a similar dilemma recently.

Ideally we're looking for a 2 to 3 bed flat (or house), that is in a safe area, near parkland, access to nice countryside, and with a few amenities on our doorstep (we know we won't get Shawlands, but somewhere you can grab a nice coffee and a few bits and pieces from a shop). Our budget is around £150,000. My partner works in the charity sector in the city centre, and will need to commute into the city a couple of days a week. Whilst I work in community healthcare in the East End and commute by bike or car (although could theoretically move job for the right area).

We're open to both staying in Glasgow, or moving to a surrounding town that has the house, amenities and quality of life we were looking for. I grew up in a new town so preferably don't want to be on an estate in a place like East Kilbride, nothing particularly wrong with it, it's just not for me.

With that in mind the areas that seem to be in our price range are.

Southside:

Auldhouse/Merrylee (ex-local authority flat)

Kings Park/Croftfoot (cottage flat)

Cardonald/Bellahouston (tenement/cottage flat)

West End:

Kelvindale (ex-local authority flat)

Knightswood (cottage flat)

Scotstoun (tenement or cottage flat)

Other places?:

Paisley

Gourock

Kirkintilloch

Stirling

Helensburgh

Dumbarton

Rutherglen

We just wonder if anyone else has made a similar move for similar reasons in the past and how they got on? Or has similar experience of the areas mentioned.
