| Body | I'm trying to be a bit preemptive and check out a few places I'm considering for vet school. Glasgow is one of the higher-listed ones but I had a few general questions that I didn't find answers to on youtube (in the states it seems fairly par for the course to find tour/tip videos on the major cities, but Glasgow surprisingly didn't have as much from what I could see).
* Probably the most important one to me, what are the areas/neighborhoods to steer clear of within the city (I'd prefer to stay within the city so my nephew always has access to a larger hospital, but since my College is in Bearsden I am open to the neighborhood and surrounding neighborhoods in that area. If I gotta commute, I gotta commute.)?
* What are some good fishing/hiking spots?
* What are the grocery store chains? And which are the best in terms of price and the best in terms of quality?
* What neighborhoods feel more family-oriented (i,e parents & children)?
* Is there much in the way of special needs programs (autism, specifically)? I have a nephew who's gotten burned pretty bad by the education and medical system in the states so getting some personal experiences never hurt. Some first experiences would be nice. I know I have to check these things myself, but if AutismSpeaks taught me anything it's that a lot of them are mostly for show, unfortunately.
* What realtor websites should I steer clear of? Why? Would my being from the states largely affect any offer I put down? Were there any realtor sites that left an exceptionally good or bad impression on you? And for the migraters, were there any that felt discriminatory when you were looking for a place to buy or rent? Is there anything obvious that's a Europe/UK thing that would be an instant deal-breaker on a flat/house, or would at least be grounds for me to try and haggle down (As far as budget is concerned I'd say £ 430,000 is my cut off)? |
