Body | I'm not looking to buy, but I still check out Zoopla and Right Move from time to time to see what's out there. I've noticed a huge number of obvious ex-Airbnb's going on the market recently (the photos are a dead giveaway; nice looking but still cheap furniture, no or very few books or ornaments, towel rolls in bedrooms and accent blankets on beds/couches, maps on the wall, etc.) and had a wee look at why.
As some of you might know, the law in Scotland is changing soon on short-term let's making them much less attractive to run. What I didn't know though, is that the law already changed in Glasgow back in 2017 to be that all short-term let owners are required to get a license from the GCC. And that they do not give licenses to flats with a shared entrance/close and also rarely given in conservation areas.
Now, I've got at least 2 Airbnb's in my building, I'm assuming a fair few of you might do too. Enforcement is entirely complaint driven, so if you've got a problem with rowdy strangers coming in and out of your building you can lodge a complaint with the GCC. And yes, GCC and a bunch of useless numpties, but they do crack down on these. JSYK! |
