Hi Glasgow,

I met my Scottish girlfriend online in 2019 and we started a long distance relationship pretty quickly. I lived in Montreal, Canada at the time. Shortly after we began dating, covid hit, and both our countries closed their borders for nearly two years.

All our plans to visit eachother were repeatedly ruined as the world stood still, and in April of this year I couldn't take the distance anymore. We decided I'd buy a one way ticket, move in together and try our best to start a life. I had decent savings to fall back on, and the long-term plan was to complete my CompTIA Secuirty+ certification and find a sponsored job in the cybersecurity field. She can't sponsor me with a partnership visa as she is a student and doesn't meet the requirements.

Everything's been amazing and I love it here. My relationship is great, I've acclimatised fantastically, made some good friends and the last thing I want is to leave my new life behind. I just can't find a job as easily as I'd hoped, and I wondered if anyone had any advice.

I've applied to multiple entry level cybersecurity positions, but they lose interest when I mention I will need sponsorship. I'm tech savvy and created a mass emailer to send CVs to a list of companies that offer sponsorship, and hit nothing but a wall of rejection. I'm getting discouraged and starting to panic. I don't want to give up my great new life in Glasgow, and I would be broken if I were to leave my girlfriend and return to Canada. I'm bilingual and have proficiency in plenty of fields: kitchen experience, graphic design, basic knowledge in multiple programming languages and Office experience to name but a few. I would love a job in my preferred field, but I'll take anything that will either sponsor me or offer cash in hand.
