TitlePotholes and Broadband.

At certain points on Dumbarton Road the pavement and road is absolutely full of them, and has been for years. I had kinda accepted that this is how things are and just jump over them as best I can. The council is clearly not going to repair them. However recently the same stretch of road/pavement has been dug up (at quite an inconvenience to residents) to install new supper duper underground Broadband cables.

Now, anyone paying attention over the last few years will understand full well why the council would be focusing their efforts on installing technology that makes being at home 24hrs a day more comfortable while allowing the roads and pavements to deteriorate into a state of disrepair. However at this point I feel like they are taking the Michael and laughing at us.

The stretch of road I am referring to has now seen the work completed. Every bit of pavement and road that had been dug up to accommodate the cables has been replaced beautifully. Lovely and smooth, couldn't ask for more. However DIRECLY beside the nice new smooth sections, that the contractors were obviously contractually obliged to do. Remains the bloomin' potholes and missing slabs that have been damaged all the time.

Surely with a bit of joined up thinking the council could have got the contractors to smooth over the whole mess, not just what they had caused? At a cost of course. Could they have even made it part of the deal? Having lived through all of this disruption and witnessed what is required to "secure the area" in order for the work to be done. I cannot for the life of me think of a reason as to why it would not have been MASSIVELY COST EFFECTIVE to have this work included and carried out during all the upheaval that was happening anyway. If you ever walk past you will see how ridiculous it looks!

I will not get myself started on councils, councillors and contracts as I do not have all day and would rather avoid making myself sick. However purely on a level of day to day competency they appear to be failing. No employee was capable of organising this yet "working for the council" seems to be as close as one can come to a "job for life" these days. Go figure!
