Titlewhat the f is wrong with the flat market atm

As an international student I'm looking for a place to stay almost every year and I'm absolutely gobsmacked as to wtf is going on with the housing market rn

I remember people posting that its apparently also really hard rn to find a flat to rent or even buy, but even if you're just looking for a room in a flatshare etc. like in my case it seems to be almost impossible, esp compared to like 2-3 years ago.

For example if you look at spareroom there are 5x as many people looking as there are rooms available! (for comparison in London its twice as many people looking, in Edinburgh about 3,5x)

I thought last year was bad with the cop26 and people moving back post pandemic but this year it seems to be even worse and I'm just wondering how?
Like where are all these people coming from, why are they coming to Glasgow, what happened to all the flats, what the hecks going on...

Anybody got a theory?

TLDR: when the fuck did Glasgow's flat market become NYC?
