Is there anything that can be done about other tenants in our building ramming the blue bins with non-recyclables?
Our block of 8 flats has three greens and two blues, which are always full to the brim with things that shouldn't be in there.
Took the recycling out today and find:
* plastic bags filled with recyclables
* large intact cardboard box filled with packing peanuts - filling the whole bin.
* glass
In a previous property, also 8-flat block but 4 blues and 6 greens I have found:
* old shoes
* electrical devices such as inkjet printers and kettles
* building waste
* plastic packing material such as bubble wrap or styrofoam wrapping.
* textiles
* glass again
* food waste - note no compost bins. I put my food waste in the green bin.
* plastic bags containing recyclables
Only once have I had the pleasure to find a blue bin filled with mostly recyclables, with the exception of yoghurt tubs - (which usually are recyclable but GCC can't?)
Is there anything that could be done, even on a council level, or is this a lost hope with people either too apathetic towards recycling or straight up uninformed?
Some of the bins have labels on them with what is "allowed" and not in the bin - but that doesn't appear to make a difference.
On another note, why is it that Glasgow and the UK as a whole have a unified recycling stream? Surely a separated system as found in say Germany/Switzerland where you are expected to bring separated waste to a large plant is far more logical |
