Have any Tenants been given rent relief from any of the large letting chains?

We were supposed to move on the 31st March but were forced to stay in our current flat which is £1025 a month.. We were moving to a flat which is much less in rent because we recently lost some income in our household..

Then Covid happened and we were told by our new landlords SlaterHogg that we couldn't move in..

We agreed a 1 week extension to our lease (till the end of the first lockdown) but i was then put on furlough with a much reduced wage..

I then asked for a rent reduction as we were stuck in a flat that we couldnt pay for and they said no.. but you can move into the new flat whenever u want now.. Slaterhogg and Countrywide are the same company..

We are now being told we cant have the keys to our new flat until we have paid the owing rent on this place that we were forced to stay in.. meaning we cant move out and we now owe them more money every day.

Its a fucking nightmare

Anyone got an idea what we can do? We can pay the massive rent on a credit card but thats maybe not the best of ideas.. we have the rent and deposit for the new place saved so thats not an issue.

cheers
