  • I wanted to get home from braehead couple of days ago. Decided to walk, cause it was faster than the busses. Ended up getting picked up, cause I missed the last ferry. I don't understand why it's easier for me to go to Edinburgh than it is to go to the other side of the river. by BreathlessAlpaca (Wed 12th Apr 2023 10:51am)

  • Can neither confirm or deny that, I don't drive. But taking a train to Edinburgh is so much easier than getting to say Braehead from where I stay. Took me 1.5 hours to get there a couple of weeks ago. Decided to walk back, cause that's a wee bit faster, but missed the last ferry. by BreathlessAlpaca (Tue 25th Apr 2023 6:42pm)

  • It is not. I'm German. I grew up in Germany. I've been living there up until three years ago. I've learnt how to drive on German roads. I tell you, it's not true. by BreathlessAlpaca (Wed 14th Jun 2023 12:48pm)
  • Right, see, you gotta add that you're talking about the green arrow. You are allowed to do that if there's that sign. However, it is so very rare. Some places in the eastern part of the country and they're getting less and less. by BreathlessAlpaca (Wed 14th Jun 2023 12:50pm)

  • Protected bike lanes. I also feel like bike lanes tend to be put in where they're easy to establish rather than where they're useful. I'm assuming that's just so they can say "oh but look at this bike lane!", but on the off chance it's actual ignorance, just check the fucking Strava heat maps to find out where people actually cycle. Doesn't even cost you anything. Bike lanes also need to be better connected. The best bike lane ever isn't of much use to me if I need to risk my life getting there. by BreathlessAlpaca (Sat 5th Aug 2023 9:22am)
  • Fair! The uci championships might also influence the heat maps. Don't think anyone uses Strava in competitions, but maybe for training rides or something. On routes that the average Glasgow cyclist wouldn't necessarily use. by BreathlessAlpaca (Sat 5th Aug 2023 11:52am)
  • Ditch your car for a cargo bike by BreathlessAlpaca (Sat 5th Aug 2023 11:59am)
  • I mean.. maybe someone would get use of it? Who knows :D Just thought of something else, more bridges over the Clyde would be grand. I live in Anniesland and depending on where I'm going my options are Clyde tunnel, which is.. an experience, or ferry, which is nice, but only runs until 6. I know there's one on the horizon, but just while we're at it. by BreathlessAlpaca (Sat 5th Aug 2023 12:18pm)
  • Yeah, but do they use it during the actual race? by BreathlessAlpaca (Sat 5th Aug 2023 9:08pm)

  • Sorry I don't have a couple grand to spend on a bike? Also, wearing a helmet, while being the smart thing to do, is a personal choice. It doesn't endanger anyone else. by BreathlessAlpaca (Mon 2nd Oct 2023 11:08am)
  • I'd probably turn right into either Hyndland or Byres road, so luckily will miss that bit. Some bits are quite narrow, yeah. Haven't had any issues so far though, just really don't think I'd feel safe there after dark. by BreathlessAlpaca (Mon 2nd Oct 2023 12:14pm)
  • It's dark, narrow, nowhere to escape and on one end I got the canal, on the other the park. Never been there after dark to be fair, but I really don't think I'll feel safe. by BreathlessAlpaca (Mon 2nd Oct 2023 12:15pm)

  • This is really helpful, thanks! I'll probably just go through the park and Kelvinway on the way back, so it's really just Anniesland to Finnieston that I'd need to sort. Should still be light for my return and I love that route, just got safety concerns in the dark. by BreathlessAlpaca (Tue 3rd Oct 2023 11:16am)
  • Yeah I really wish there was a combined monthly or something ticket for all public transport. You know, like in most cities.. by BreathlessAlpaca (Wed 4th Oct 2023 1:05pm)
  • We've had a whole month without rain. Also, I know it doesn't look appealing, but just work out in the rain. You either need to move elsewhere or accept that you're going to get wet. It's fine. You're waterproof, you'll get dry again. I cycle most places and have this conversation so often, especially at work. "But it's raining!" So what. You don't live in a place where you can let rain stop you. by BreathlessAlpaca (Wed 4th Oct 2023 8:48pm)

  • I heard that they huddle together in grape like formations when it gets really cold and the outer ones freeze, but the inner ones make it. Not sure if that's correct though or just some sort of urban legend. I wonder if parakeets will be the new pigeons with climate change and all.. by BreathlessAlpaca (Fri 27th Oct 2023 11:29am)
  • Dawsholm park. Basically across the canal from Anniesland or Kelvindale. Seen them at the canal right next to Kelvindale station yesterday and someone else here has said they're there quite regularly now. Either way, Dawsholm park is quite nice for a walk! by BreathlessAlpaca (Fri 27th Oct 2023 11:28am)
  • Yeah, first time I saw them was in the park and they were quite high up. Thought they were greenfinches at first, but they were too big and the noise didn't match by BreathlessAlpaca (Fri 27th Oct 2023 11:30am)
  • Inside or outside? I'd probably wait till it's warmer again if you want to plant them outside. Even the stuff that's hardy on Scotland will benefit from having some time to get settled in before getting battered with rain, frost and darkness. Not saying it's impossible and if you wanna try more power to you, but you'll probably have a better thyme (haha) if you wait some. Could sweeten the wait by building some beds? by BreathlessAlpaca (Wed 1st Nov 2023 2:00pm)

  • It's fucking atrocious. My whole life is here, Glasgow is my home and if it wasn't for the very abrupt choice of moving while you could still get pre-settled status I would've never had what I have now. My heart breaks for the many people who have this taken from them. Also just fucking shows how out of touch the Tories are. £38k??? What the actual fuck. by BreathlessAlpaca (Wed 6th Dec 2023 9:05am)
  • Yeah, just mentally went through what people make at my work and I guess a bunch of them are over it, but only with tons of overtime. Most of them are Scottish, but just imagining if all those people weren't here.. yikes. I'm getting married next year and didn't originally want to file for citizenship just yet, cause it means losing my EU citizenship. But I'm getting worried. by BreathlessAlpaca (Wed 6th Dec 2023 12:50pm)
