  • Thanks all for your feedback- I’ll go to the viewing and check out the security of the place but yeah likely I will try and find somewhere else! by ConversationMoney710 (Fri 23rd Jul 2021 7:50pm)
  • Hey! I volunteer with Living Rent tenants’ union. There’s no legal requirement to write a physical letter, just email your letting agent and state that you’re handing in your [specify 28 days] notice at [address] and therefore that makes your last day in the property [date notice period ends]! It may get complicated if you have a joint tenancy so feel free to DM me if you need some advice! by ConversationMoney710 (Tue 3rd Aug 2021 7:05pm)
  • Thanks all for the info and warning! I volunteer with my tenants union so pretty good at fighting this sort of stuff- really good to be informed beforehand. I shall photograph everything! by ConversationMoney710 (Wed 4th Aug 2021 10:31pm)
  • Thank you! πŸ₯° by ConversationMoney710 (Wed 4th Aug 2021 10:41pm)
  • Landlord should recognise that those “assets” are peoples homes. The pandemic has disproportionately impacted folk on already low incomes. The tenants hardship loan only approves approx 16% of applications and the grant is no where to be seen. Landlords have mortgage breaks and interest free loans available to them. Have some compassion. by ConversationMoney710 (Mon 16th Aug 2021 1:10pm)
  • Second this! I found my therapist through BACO and she’s been incredible for me. by ConversationMoney710 (Mon 16th Aug 2021 7:54pm)
  • Just to add to the above suggestions which are all great but thanks to covid, most therapists have completed online counselling training so if you find someone who you think will work for you and your needs but they’re far away, might be worth enquiring anyway? Appreciate it doesn’t feel the same as being in the room but I moved online with my therapist when covid hit and it’s been fine for me. Also echoing what others have said and well done for taking this step, it can feel mega daunting so good on you by ConversationMoney710 (Mon 16th Aug 2021 7:56pm)
  • Just here to vouch for Living Rent, incredible work by ConversationMoney710 (Mon 6th Sep 2021 10:03pm)
  • In regards to rent, I’d recommend getting in touch with Living Rent- they could support you in asking for rent arrear forgiveness or a rent reduction? by ConversationMoney710 (Mon 20th Sep 2021 12:05pm)
  • Living Rent is a tenants union who are always keen to have people involved, if you check on Facebook for Living Rent Shawlands branch you can message someone and they’ll sort you out by ConversationMoney710 (Fri 15th Oct 2021 12:53pm)
  • You would still technically have lodgers rights which you can enforce as long as you evidence you lived there. I’d contact Living Rent - they’re a tenants union who are pretty clued up on this stuff and can support you through this. Good luck! by ConversationMoney710 (Fri 14th Jan 2022 11:19pm)
  • £31.5K with a policy MSc however I also worked all the way through uni so it wasn’t just my degree that got my that role! by ConversationMoney710 (Thu 27th Jan 2022 7:54pm)
  • My work are next to central station and I chain my bike up outside with a d-lock and an additional chain around both my tires and the frame. So far the bike has been fine however I had clip on lights and a phone holder which were nicked the only time I forgot to bring them in with me πŸ™ƒ. I reckon as long as you’re smart about locking up your bike up properly with a good quality lock then you’ll be okay! by ConversationMoney710 (Sun 29th May 2022 2:21pm)
  • Thanks for the tip, I’ll have a look! by ConversationMoney710 (Mon 25th Jul 2022 6:53pm)
  • Noted, at this point I’m just gonna hang a bed sheet over the curtain rail πŸ’” by ConversationMoney710 (Mon 25th Jul 2022 7:19pm)
  • The main thing is keeping some of the heat in during winter so this is very helpful, thanks! by ConversationMoney710 (Mon 25th Jul 2022 8:17pm)

  • My budget is £150-200 max by ConversationMoney710 (Mon 25th Jul 2022 8:22pm)
  • I make my own clothing so very aware of the high cost to make anything material from scratch and the talent of tailors! However, that still doesn’t exactly help when I don’t have a lot of spare cash by ConversationMoney710 (Mon 25th Jul 2022 8:20pm)
  • That’s really great she was able to do that for you! I sew myself so if I can’t find anything then the plan is to fork out for the material (lack time is the main issue and it would be a big undertaking as I’m still a newbie!) by ConversationMoney710 (Mon 25th Jul 2022 8:25pm)
  • I’m thinking this may be my route! Did you have to sew in pleats for the curtain rail?? by ConversationMoney710 (Mon 25th Jul 2022 8:43pm)
  • Thank you! by ConversationMoney710 (Mon 25th Jul 2022 8:45pm)

  • Aye I reckon whatever length I manage to find I’ll have to get two sets! Seems a lot of folk do that now anyway by ConversationMoney710 (Mon 25th Jul 2022 10:25pm)
  • Aye I’m pretty good with diy stuff so I might get cheap cream ones and dye them a colour I like! Do you have a link for the set you bought? by ConversationMoney710 (Mon 25th Jul 2022 10:32pm)
  • Oh lovely!! Thanks ☺️ by ConversationMoney710 (Tue 26th Jul 2022 1:18pm)
  • Your university still may be able to provide some advice or give you a referral of some sort to a Housing Association. I’d get in touch with them or the student union who should have an advice and welfare team! by ConversationMoney710 (Mon 8th Aug 2022 5:49pm)
  • I am begging people to stop telling this person to “cut out this nice thing that makes your life easier or nicer” the fact is that wages should pay enough for people to live a decent and good life and our current economy doesn’t provide that. OP I hope things aren’t to hard over winter for you! Fingers crossed we get some more support packages in winter to help folk get through. by ConversationMoney710 (Thu 18th Aug 2022 10:41pm)
  • I honestly just find it a wee bit condescending and besides the point. I get folk have the best intentions however people should be able to get the odd takeaway without bankrupting themselves yknow? by ConversationMoney710 (Thu 18th Aug 2022 11:02pm)
  • Hey! I (26F) know the pain- moved to Glasgow 2 years ago for my masters and met lovely people who mostly moved away after graduating. I’m also into movies, cycling and hiking (and a proud cat owner haha) so if you wanna grab a coffee sometime then feel free to message! Im also looking into clubs like Clyde mountaineering and have been looking into social netball too. It’s honestly so much effort to make friends once you leave uni and move to a new place! by ConversationMoney710 (Wed 7th Sep 2022 10:23pm)
  • Same lines as the Scouts suggestion- I volunteer with the Guides and it’s a really lovely, welcoming atmosphere for new girls. Would recommend if there’s any units near you! Feel free to message me if you’ve got any questions about it! Edit: spelling by ConversationMoney710 (Mon 21st Nov 2022 4:57pm)
  • Number for Samaritans here: 116 123 I’m so sorry you’re feeling this way, I know it doesn’t feel like it but please know there is a lot of beauty and love in the world and you deserve to be here to see that. Sending you strength and love through this. by ConversationMoney710 (Fri 23rd Dec 2022 11:39am)
  • Shelter are a great org for housing advice! Id also recommend getting in touch with Living Rent who are Scotland’s tenants union. They can support your brother to advocate for his rights- they’ve even had some successes with getting evictions overturned! Good luck and I’m sorry this is happening to him. by ConversationMoney710 (Fri 23rd Dec 2022 10:52pm)
