Also, keep an eye on the careers page, there may be another advertisement for work experiences in June for the summer (July, August, September or October). by Djorak (Mon 4th Mar 2019 3:37pm)
  • Have you checked Roots & Fruits on Great Western Road, next to Kelvinbridge? I often find stuff there that I struggle to find elsewhere. by Djorak (Wed 1st May 2019 11:31am)
  • The Sparkle Horse, right next to Kevinhall subway station, has some good wines and is usually quiet. by Djorak (Wed 8th May 2019 10:15am)
  • We just got our offer accepted on the flat yesterday afternoon after closing date. I hope everything goes smooth from there, we can't wait to get the keys! To answer OP's question: we have been looking in the West End and Merchant City, most places went for 10-15% over HR value. Some places where we offered more or less 10% over HR value another party was offering about £10k more than us. by Djorak (Thu 13th Jun 2019 2:39pm)
  • Nice shit posting by Djorak (Sat 6th Jul 2019 9:59am)
  • I'm currently buying a flat on Bell Street, my first flat, and didn't think about the marches until today... Hopefully it'll be OK (top floor, double glazing and no car to worry about). Its so fucking annoying, I took the subway from Buchanan St to St Enoch just to get past them. by Djorak (Sat 6th Jul 2019 3:24pm)
  • Definitely go all the way up the Lighthouse in Mitchell Lane if you can! You get a 360 view of the city centre. by Djorak (Thu 8th Aug 2019 11:53am)
  • If I remember correctly, Artisan Roast on Gibson Street has sofas upstairs. So does Offshore on the same street. For a smaller and quieter café, a couple minutes walk away you have Bennu, I haven't been in a while but upstairs was quite cosy. There's also the iCafe on the same street or on Great Western Road. by Djorak (Tue 20th Aug 2019 3:21pm)

  • My partner goes once a month to the Girly Book Club and seems to be having a great time: https://uk.thegirlybookclub.com/glasgow/ They meet in a pub in Merchant City and are quite active on Whatsapp outside of the monthly meetup. by Djorak (Mon 3rd Feb 2020 10:26am)
  • I've helped interview a fair share of people in my current job. It always feels weird being allowed to make decisions that'll impact someone's future like that. by Djorak (Tue 25th Feb 2020 4:27pm)

  • Partick really has potential to become a proper Chinatown in Glasgow, I'd honestly love that. But that'd only work if a proper community forms there rather than students that are there for 1-3 years then go back home. It's unlikely to happen given most of them live in short-term accomodation though... And let's not even talk about getting a visa to stay post graduation. by Djorak (Wed 11th Mar 2020 2:57pm)
  • > Noticed this morning that a crane has been erected on the plot of land across from the Crystal Bell at the Gallowgate. I think that's some work being done by Network Rail, but I may be wrong. by Djorak (Thu 12th Mar 2020 10:58am)

  • Pigeons in cities aren't the healthiest animals... The main reason they're missing claws or even feet is because, unlike other birds, when they're on the ground they shuffle instead of jumping. That mean their feet often get tangled in all kind of threads or similar. by Djorak (Fri 13th Mar 2020 3:32pm)
  • I assume the one right outside the entrance to the Buchanan Street subway station, on Nelson Mandela place. by Djorak (Wed 25th Mar 2020 3:38pm)

  • Purrple Cat Cafe in Trongate is still open to takeaway (at their window facing the Clock Tower on High Street). by Djorak (Fri 1st May 2020 12:49pm)
  • Totally agree! Since the lockdown started, I replaced my V60 with a Moccamaster filter machine and my blade grinder with a much nicer burr grinder (Wilfa Svart that I ordered from Dear Green Coffee). And I get a 1kg bag of beans delivered by Artisan Roast (to support a Scottish roaster). Makes such a good difference to have a convenient way of making a good coffee, definitely worth it. by Djorak (Fri 1st May 2020 2:20pm)
  • Go with First Mortage! Free mortgage advisor and they're not affiliated with any banks or mortgage companies: https://www.firstmortgage.co.uk/branches/glasgow/ by Djorak (Mon 18th May 2020 4:22pm)
  • Ah yeah, we used their services last year (so glad we bought our flat before all of that...), I have no idea what services they offer during the lockdown. Maybe worth phoning them? by Djorak (Mon 18th May 2020 4:58pm)
  • I've been told by my partner that works at the QEUH, that yeah it's bad when it's warm. by Djorak (Wed 3rd Jun 2020 4:10pm)
  • More space to be socially distant for pedestrians and cyclists, sounds good to me. Kind of related, I really wish there wasn't a motorway between the city centre and the West End... by Djorak (Thu 23rd Jul 2020 3:19pm)
  • This is what Google Maps says: https://i.imgur.com/4UsTiHI.png They get their info from SPT. If you want to be sure, only thing you can do is sit on the subway with a stopwatch and time it yourself. by Djorak (Thu 6th Aug 2020 2:56pm)
  • We were there about a week ago and the toilets behind the Kibble Palace (near the Queen Margaret Drive entrance) were open. There was a bit of a queue but it was a kinda sunny Saturday, so busy. by Djorak (Sat 5th Sep 2020 11:35am)

  • The way I do it: 1. compare car hire prices on https://www.rentalcars.com/ 2. hire car with no extra options (no cover/protection) 3. get hire insurance from Questor (https://www.questor-insurance.co.uk/car-hire-insurance) I'm not related to any of those websites/services, that's just the ones I use, feel free to shop around. :) by Djorak (Thu 29th Oct 2020 4:24pm)
  • Agreed! I have great service at both the Specsavers on Byres Rd and the one at Trongate over the years. I like the yearly reminder to come in for a free eye check and a contacts check (I get my contacts from them by post). by Djorak (Thu 5th Nov 2020 3:32pm)

  • Socially distanced barbecue with 2 friends tonight, travelling outside Glasgow tomorrow and a haircut booked for next week (first one since Feb 2020, I have long hair now and planning on keeping it, I have no idea what to ask for anymore!). It's not quite a return to normal, but it feels good. by Djorak (Fri 16th Apr 2021 11:58am)
  • Argyle Gents Club is still open and operated by Lisa, I have an appointment with her this week. They seem to have a different address than before lockdown though for some reason (still in Finnieston). If you call to book an appointment with them, they'll give you the new (temporary?) address. by Djorak (Sun 18th Apr 2021 6:43pm)
  • Not sure, I believe him and Lisa split up (and the business, hence the change of name to Argyle Gents Club). No idea what he is up to now. by Djorak (Sun 18th Apr 2021 8:20pm)
  • Went there for the first time this weekend. We walked from Irvine to Troon along the beach then took the train back to Irvine where our car was parked. It was really nice and we had no issues with the place being too crowded (except on Troon beach, that was expected). You can definitely do that by train: stop in Irvine, walk on the beach to Troon or even further to Ayr, then train back home to Glasgow. by Djorak (Mon 19th Apr 2021 12:44pm)
  • From my own experience, if you don't have guarantors in the UK they'll probably expect a few months up front (I had to pay 6 months...). • They were great when we bought our 1st property a couple years ago. Really helped us wrap our heads around everything. Kind of looking forward to speak to them again towards the end of our fixed interest period. :) by Djorak (Fri 11th Jun 2021 10:33am)
  • The Asda Petrol at the Forge/Parkhead has a self-service thing you can use for a couple quids. I've used it a week ago to wash tree sap off my car. Not drive thru but pretty good. It's on the left side of the petrol station shop, past the pumps. by Djorak (Fri 11th Jun 2021 10:56am)
  • I'm sure a cat shelter like Catflap would be happy with the food donation. by Djorak (Thu 17th Jun 2021 4:21pm)
  • I want to do the same thing in our flat eventually and a coworker recommended [Partnership Flooring](http://www.partnershipflooring.co.uk) in Maryhill. They seem to be happy with the work they have done in their property. by Djorak (Tue 22nd Jun 2021 10:42am)

  • Stayed at the Glasgow Youth Hostel on Park Terrace a few years ago for about a month when I first arrived in Glasgow and it was really nice. Easy to get to West End and City Centre, lovely Victorian building and great views over Kelvingrove Park. If there's about 8 of you, you could probably book a room or two just for your group. by Djorak (Tue 31st Jan 2023 11:03am)

My gluten intolerant friends love it as they don't have to worry about it, they can just order anything. by Djorak (Fri 14th Jul 2023 1:02pm)
  • True, but it does run until 1:15am, 2:15am at the weekend, and there's a large network of buses between midnight and 5am. The situation in Glasgow is ridiculous and unacceptable in a city that size. by Djorak (Mon 17th Jul 2023 2:59pm)
