  • Well said. Came here to say something similar. I can answer your Q about rights in Pakistan. Same goes for places like Saudi Arabia, Afghanistan, or basically anywhere in the Muslim world. People don't talk about it, even though they have some of the worst human rights issues, particularly against women, in the world. The reason is because the same activists would need tackle issues around Religion. And as a result of that they risk being called out as racist and so on,. by KentuckyFriedChicky (Mon 11th Jul 2022 8:06pm)
  • If he threatened you and knocked your phone out your hand, then go to the police. What are the security company that said security guard works for going to do? They'll just laugh it off and do nothing. I doubt the police will be any good either but, you know. by KentuckyFriedChicky (Fri 15th Jul 2022 5:27pm)
  • >Told the guy to be careful as I have a dog. Claims I'm saying the dog will attack him if he touches me. Told the guy to be careful as I have a sharp instrument in my possession. Claims I'm saying I'd attack him with a knife if he touches me. by KentuckyFriedChicky (Fri 15th Jul 2022 5:53pm)
  • You've replied 3 times to a single comment of mine. Do you realise that you can gather your thoughts into a single cohesive comment and move on? You don't need to keep returning to write me another comment every time a new thought pops into your head lol by KentuckyFriedChicky (Fri 15th Jul 2022 6:35pm)
  • Not sure if you're a troll or not but regardless, it's entertaining for a Friday evening so keep it going :) by KentuckyFriedChicky (Fri 15th Jul 2022 7:23pm)

  • >I came to Scotland from the US in 2014 to attend grad school and stayed for the same reasons. Once you know what it's like to be treated like a person, it's hard to go back. As somebody who was once on Universal Credit for 3 months, I can assure you, they do everything they can to make sure you're *not* treated like a human. by KentuckyFriedChicky (Tue 19th Jul 2022 2:05pm)
  • People are giving a whole bunch of overarching reasons for what you listed above and IMO it isn't a good way to think about it because all it's doing is adding weight to it when it might not even be warranted. Each of the above incidents you've mentioned could be thought of as individual events, completely unrelated from one another. If you start thinking that each of them are one and part of the same problem then you can easily blow it out of proportion and make assumptions about society that aren't all that true beyond your own anecdotes and bias. by KentuckyFriedChicky (Tue 19th Jul 2022 7:11pm)
  • Yep, I tip food delivery drivers. I think it might have come from a tradition where restaurants had drivers being paid cash-in-hand who weren't on any kind of hourly rate. I think they'd get the delivery fee (not sure on that one) and then whatever tips were paid. My family weren't rich but always tried to do it whether it was just 50p. Since the pandemic I've been ordering ay more food, but I've had less change since most things are cashless these days. As a result I've not tipped, but I suppose I do on the Deliver app. However I've kind stopped caring about it as much unless I know the Delivery person has gone out their way, or had to carry a lot and so on. I don't expect anything back, but I've given some Deliveroo drivers fairly sizeable tips in the past and then I've gone outside to meet them, they've said things like "Where have you been?! I've been calling you. You should be outside ready to collect" and all sorts of bullshit. Barely any of them ever say thanks, and some of them literally say nothing. by KentuckyFriedChicky (Tue 19th Jul 2022 8:28pm)
  • Well, that's exactly part of the point I'm making. I don't *have* to go out and get my food (ie going downstairs), but I don't mind and it makes it a little quicker for the delivery person. In other words, I'm trying to make their life easier, giving them a tip, and still not getting a smile, a thanks, and sometimes get bullshit from them time to time. The apps are super convenient, as I like the tracking feature. However the local/traditional delivery drivers are always way nicer. For that reason I just stopped caring about the app drivers as much, so don't feel like I want to tip whereas I was happy to do so before. by KentuckyFriedChicky (Tue 19th Jul 2022 9:18pm)
  • >While I agree in some respects, imagine expecting the same (universal credit) in the US. You think it’s dehumanising here, then give it a go! At least there’s a common understanding that if you have nothing else, the state will attempt to support you (in its own special brand of fucked up way). Yes, but you could argue that it's what makes Universal Credit even more dehumanising. The support you expect after years of paying taxes isn't what is apparently advertised, or what people think they are going to get who have never been on UC. It's all completely and utterly nonsense. On top of that, having no "system" as in the US doesn't make having a system which is totally fucked any less dehumanising. You could argue that knowing you have know support and need to fend for yourself is better than *thinking* you have a safety net when in fact you can still end up on the streets after years of you and your family paying into a system and not taking out of it in the form of UC. >Out of interest, why was it so bad for you? How did they treat you badly? There may be some advice or at least something others could learn from your experiences… Honestly, I can't be bothered going into it tonight. I actually wrote a blog post on it years ago and stopped at around 3k words. I don't know where it is though. It just filled a gap when I was jobless. by KentuckyFriedChicky (Tue 19th Jul 2022 10:25pm)

  • Altering all of society to fit the needs of the smallest minority. Perfect example is the approach to the toilet situation. Businesses are now changing from Male/Female toilets and making single toilets for everyone. Yeah, okay, that's fine in a restaurant. However last night I was in a club/gig venue and it was an absolute fucking nightmare. by KentuckyFriedChicky (Thu 21st Jul 2022 2:54pm)
  • >Having weans in your profile on online dating apps is selfish. What's the difference between a dating app and other social media? >Having their picture easily displayed in public on an ADULT APP is risky and it's naive to think dodgy cunts won't try anywhere to find pictures of children. There's the whole internet out there with billion of pages, and a picture of a child on part of your dating app is the concern for you? lol >The kid's safety is more important than you using their picture as leverage to get pussy. Got it. So really this is about men, not women having pictures of their children? :) by KentuckyFriedChicky (Thu 21st Jul 2022 2:51pm)

  • Aye, that's it. "No reason" at all to not build a train station and a line running there. Wouldn't cost a lot at all. And zero permanent disruption whatsoever. by KentuckyFriedChicky (Fri 29th Jul 2022 7:47pm)
  • Sorry I posted on the wrong sub. haha. Just realised. Will delete by KentuckyFriedChicky (Mon 1st Aug 2022 9:29pm)
  • >First, I think this is a pretty random post to put on this subreddit. Why is it a random post? It's front-page of the BBC and has coverage all over the TV and todays newspaper. If AskUK isn't for that, then what is it for? I understand that it is team England, not Scotland, NI, Wales, but it's still very relevant. EDIT: Just realised I accidentally posted on the wrong sub, sorry! I mean you said it yourself: >UK is football daft And when you say: >But anyway, the sport will only grow bigger if it gets more coverage. Yes, but why Women's football in particular? There are loads of sports which have an even longer history of women playing that should get attention. Not having a go, just interested. >Finally, believe me, if it was the England men's team, the coverage would be much, much bigger Yes, but that would be completely justified. Mens football is the single biggest sport in the country, and maybe even the world. There's decades of heritage there which would warrant front-page news for extended time. by KentuckyFriedChicky (Mon 1st Aug 2022 9:28pm)
  • But why is it a bad take, and why do you say the coverage is proportionate? by KentuckyFriedChicky (Tue 2nd Aug 2022 12:09am)
