  • Yes well certainly. by OmegaBornAndRaised (Sun 14th Aug 2022 7:23am)
  • Makes sense as the advice I got were from friends who arrived last year. I doubt supply will catch up by next year then if Glasgow is anything like where I live now… by OmegaBornAndRaised (Sun 14th Aug 2022 8:13am)
  • Yep certainly looking at the outskirts of the city and even as far as Edinburgh currently. I think I have a pretty decent budget but it’s hard to even get responses so we’ll see. by OmegaBornAndRaised (Sun 14th Aug 2022 8:16am)
  • Yeah the international student cash cow system is v problematic and I’ve been on both sides of it more than once. I’m honestly just shocked at how stupid this is tho because if I can’t find a place to stay then they don’t get my money ?? All other unis I’ve been to seem to understand this and prioritize accommodations for international and first year students. by OmegaBornAndRaised (Sun 14th Aug 2022 8:47am)
  • Map is a good idea & im looking in all directions as far as I can see so why not Edinburgh? by OmegaBornAndRaised (Sun 14th Aug 2022 9:01am)
  • Ah makes sense I may be too optimistic about the distance since I’ve done an hour commute before in Tokyo I really picked UoG because of Glasgow tho ☹️ by OmegaBornAndRaised (Sun 14th Aug 2022 9:07am)
  • Wonder why those haven’t been refurbished and turned back into rental/investment properties as well? Are they just sitting there empty… by OmegaBornAndRaised (Sun 14th Aug 2022 9:12am)
  • Ah this is why Reddit is fun, already have been called an idiot 3 times for asking a question by OmegaBornAndRaised (Sun 14th Aug 2022 9:43am)
  • What a shame really but it makes sense from a business perspective. Yeah I’m surprised at how little accommodations are uni owned tbh. by OmegaBornAndRaised (Sun 14th Aug 2022 9:41am)
  • I’m not sure about normal but similar to most students I am desperate. If that is the only way I can get my degree then I’d rather do that than miss out. It’s not ideal and isn’t my first choice but it definitely is my last. by OmegaBornAndRaised (Sun 14th Aug 2022 9:46am)
  • Yes thank you I’ll look at those! by OmegaBornAndRaised (Sun 14th Aug 2022 9:52am)
  • Yep I’m doing a masters and am looking with someone else. I’m also in fb groups so we could find more flatmates if it comes to that. Looking at multiple room flats atm. Did you pay multiple months at a time or was there something that helped you secure your flat? by OmegaBornAndRaised (Sun 14th Aug 2022 3:49pm)
  • Yeah I got an offer because I applied months ahead of most people but a bunch of other people didn’t. I know students coming from places like Ukraine and people on scholarship. While I can afford to not have guaranteed dorm, there are plenty of students (some of them friends) who simply can’t. The university guaranteed accommodation to all those who applied before August 25th and all of the sudden that guarantee was taken away. It effectively pushed tens if not hundreds of people into the private rental market too. I’m sorry if you didn’t mean it that way but I think my anger is justified. I’ve studied at other unis across the world and have always had myself and others be taken care of when it comes to accommodation. The university is our support system while in country and this is just unfair in general. I can admit that I (an individual) made a bad call and still hold the uni (a business) accountable for pulling back their guarantee. by OmegaBornAndRaised (Tue 16th Aug 2022 12:57am)
