  • I haven't had any trouble at all. Just say you're going out for exercise or to get groceries if someone stops you. by UselessPaint (Tue 12th Jan 2021 10:50pm)
  • I'm actually a little bit outside but I know glasgow, grew up there, lived there until recently. I don't really care how far away a good mechanic is, I'll go wherever I need to. by UselessPaint (Thu 21st Jan 2021 7:00am)
  • I have watched and learned most of the stuff I know about bikes on youtube, but here's the thing, I have maybe 5 functioning brain cells at any one time and I have learned through trial and error and breaking a lot of stuff when something is beyond me and I need to ask a person. I was planning on going to some bike maintenance classes that some places offered but then the lockdown hit so that's been postponed. I'm sure I'd be able to put it all together and build what I need, but Im mostly worried about what brand to buy and what works together and what doesn't. by UselessPaint (Fri 22nd Jan 2021 11:39am)
  • Always picked up my dogs poop, its common sense. It is very selfish not to do it. I was lucky enough that the local pensioners would report people to the council and they'd get people out there to hand out fines. I remember I once dropped my phone and it landed in liquid dog shit, it was not a fun day at all especially when I had to clean it up, the phone survived and I couldn't afford to buy a new one so I continued using the dog shit one for another 2 years. I wish people that didn't pick up their dog shit would get drop kicked into the shit, that would teach them a lesson. by UselessPaint (Fri 22nd Jan 2021 11:45am)
  • Yeah, the one I currently have is second hand, got it for a good price, was only ridden twice and the guy didn't want it. And there lies the little problem, I've only had this bike for a year and a little bit, it's practically brand new, I replaced the front suspension fork for a better one as well, as much as a little voice at the back of my mind is telling me that maybe a new bike would be better, I have invested a lot already into this bike, aside from 2 little scratches the frame looks and pretty much is brand new. The whole thing looks brand new, its just the chain rub that's the issue, the rest can easily be fixed/replaced. I will try some of the places people have recommended, see what a professional has to say, if a new drive train is needed and it costs more than the bike itself then I'll consider a new bike, if the price is manageable then I'll go through with a new drive train. All I meed is a solid mechanic that can give good advice. by UselessPaint (Fri 22nd Jan 2021 12:37pm)
  • Wish it was a simple chain change but I can't even shift, the chain falls off and rubs against the front derailleur if I switch to a higher gear, makes an awful racket and gets stuck too. Have to pedal like crazy half the time 😂 only small gears for now by UselessPaint (Fri 22nd Jan 2021 2:56pm)
  • Thank you! That is a little far from where I am, but it seems like the closets place. by UselessPaint (Tue 26th Jan 2021 1:29pm)
  • Just me at the moment. I did check the council site, didn't find anything specific about aerosol can pickup, and wasn't sure if it's for free or not. My local council makes you pay for rubbish pickup, and unfortunately at the moment I am unemployed and really cannot afford to spend more than £50 in the next 2 weeks. It is a great suggestion, thank you, Ill have another look at the council website and see what I can do there. by UselessPaint (Tue 26th Jan 2021 1:38pm)
  • Any help is greatly appreciated! Thank you! I'm still looking up places that can pick up/take in and recycle the cans, I've narrowed the list down to a handful. I'll get in contact once I've got it sorted. I will also make another post here on this subreddit with more details and an actual date, I am hoping to do it this month or early February. by UselessPaint (Tue 26th Jan 2021 4:53pm)
  • Thank you! I appreciate any and all help, I am not local to the are so I'm still looking up all my options and the local places that can pick up the rubbish. I will send you a message once I have everything figured out, I will also make another post on this subreddit with more details, location and date. I am hoping to do it this month or early February. by UselessPaint (Tue 26th Jan 2021 4:59pm)
  • Thanks, I'm not local to the area so I've been doing some research online but I've noticed that plenty of places just don't have a site or anything, I will be going down there again to look for any advertisements on the street and stuff by UselessPaint (Tue 26th Jan 2021 4:56pm)
  • As long as it's not Hotel California I'll be happy. I worked in town and had a the same busker sing that song at least 15 times a day outside my shop. I liked that song before but I just get ptsd flashbacks now. RHCP is a pretty nice thing to hear when I'm out and about, I am kinda pushing my tastes here but they are recognisable enough to get heads turning your way. I'm not sure about any classic/well known Glaswegian songs, I don't hear any, most buskers do covers of pop songs and can't play any other chords than the fantastic 4. by UselessPaint (Wed 27th Jan 2021 6:33pm)
  • I am trying to get together a group of people to come help me clean a skatepark in central Glasgow next Saturday 6th Feb. The place is full of rubbish and discarded spray paint cans, I want a safe and clean place for artists to come and paint, as the skatepark allows graffiti as well. If you would like some company and help out just send me a wee message, I'll tell you more details like where and when. by UselessPaint (Sat 30th Jan 2021 4:11pm)
  • Hey, so the clean up will be on Saturday 6th, I'll be there from noon until dark, come whenever you can but no need to be punctual on the dot, this is a pretty chill event. The place is called Arches DIY, if you type it into google maps it will show you where it is. I made a post today on this subreddit as well it has a little more detail about the whole thing. by UselessPaint (Sat 30th Jan 2021 4:40pm)
  • Good question, I have 2 confirmed people. I obviously won't let a big group of people come and will turn them away unfortunately. The place is big enough that people can stay a safe distance away from each other and clean if they are worried about that. Worst comes to worst police come and tell us to scram because there is too many people, I'll stay behind and continue cleaning up as much as possible and whoever still wants to help, we can figure out a way, maybe take turns. Whatever it takes. I don't want all those paint cans rusting away and damaging the environment. by UselessPaint (Sat 30th Jan 2021 5:54pm)
  • Ah, yes, I am a sweet summer child... And I'll clean the place myself, as I said in a different reply, if worst comes to worst I'll get in contact with the people that still want to help and we'll figure it out, take turns, it is getting cleaned on way or another. Rusting metal cans and rubbish dont sit around and wait for us to come out. by UselessPaint (Sat 30th Jan 2021 8:02pm)
  • No, the gates are open all the time as far as I know. I'll see how much I get done and I can let you know if there is anything left to do. I'll leave some bags but depends on the weather, I dont want to leave plastic just sitting in the rain by UselessPaint (Sun 31st Jan 2021 12:48pm)
  • Tollcross Park in has one of those winter garden things. Gartloch mental hospital, its a tiny bit outside of Glasgow and not sure if its still standing or it's been torn down, I was there 4 years ago but worth a look, the atrium of the building still had pretty intact blue paint and the chandelier was still hanging up, really pretty. Right so this is outside of Glasgow, halfway to Ayr actually but its pretty much half a town that's abandoned, cant remember the name, if you google it you'll find it, you can get a train from Glasgow to there no problem, just depends on how far you're willing to travel. Just wanted to add this one in as an honourable mention. by UselessPaint (Wed 3rd Feb 2021 12:30pm)
  • So assholes do this kind of shit on a regular basis, the whole city is covered in litter but I get tonnes of shit when I try to organise people to help clean up??? 80% of them screeching about about corona regulations, does it look like those pigs that make a mess care about social distancing to you? I spent 2 days busting my ass in frigid cold bagging litter and spending what little money my unemployed ass has for the rubbish to get picked up. This is absolutely despicable. by UselessPaint (Wed 10th Feb 2021 1:22pm)
  • Rubbish isn't gonna get picked up by itself is it? I got lots of rubbish bagged and I will not take that back, I am not sorry for cleaning up after lazy idiots. Sorry if me trying my best to keep glasgow clean is an inconvenience to you. And if I get corona and die, good, one less parasite human on this planet, there's too many of us here anyway. by UselessPaint (Wed 10th Feb 2021 6:00pm)
  • Didn't force anyone to come, it was voluntary, if someone didnt feel safe then they stayed at home, you make it sound like I forced people out of their homes by knife point, the people that helped knew the risk. Law is cool and all I guess.... so is being an essential worker but you should take up issue with Costa, they seem very essential to me. Cleaning rubbish where the council does not, and I do agree with you, is not essential but its much more important than someone's morning latte and croissant. And my outlook on life is what it is, a simple truth. by UselessPaint (Wed 10th Feb 2021 6:26pm)
  • I can offer you my couch mate, me and my family are making pancakes tonight. Covid should not be a reason to kick someone out, it is not a death sentence, really disgraceful that someone would do that to you. It's great to see so many other people reaching out and offering help as well, really heart-warming stuff. by UselessPaint (Tue 16th Feb 2021 11:55am)
  • Yeah it's a big problem for me, I live right outside a train station and can get to Glasgow city centre in 20 minutes. I have lived in Glasgow all my life until last year and know pretty much the whole city, I mention this in my cv and at interviews but they don't care. It's such a stupid reason to reject someone for a position, especially if they have the means of getting there. by UselessPaint (Wed 17th Feb 2021 6:20pm)
  • I used to skate a lot when I was young, I lived in a different country, the pavement was always smooth and I could go anywhere and everywhere but then I moved here and face planted numerous times in the first week, I was known for not falling at all so this was super frustrating for me. The pavements here in the uk are pretty shite, especially in Scotland. I have not put skates on in almost a decade now. by UselessPaint (Mon 22nd Feb 2021 7:30pm)
  • For a rich tourist that only moves from fancy restaurant to a fancy hotel and never stays on the street for longer than 5 minutes then yes, it is pretty friendly..... by UselessPaint (Sat 6th Mar 2021 1:13pm)
  • Queen street train station ones are open and as of yet don't have to pay for them, we'll have to see how long that will last since they have those door coin machines. by UselessPaint (Sat 6th Mar 2021 1:17pm)
  • So she looked to be no older than 2 years old when she got to us, and was with us for 10 years but she sadly passed away in 2019. Looks like a mix of beagle and a jack russel. VERY well behaved, trained super good, she knew the fancy high five, spin and roll over too, which kinda makes me suspicious of why someone would not want a dog they put work into. She was of medium size. She meant the world to me, she was like a soulmate and even after a year and a half I am struggling to not cry thinking about her. I've been curious about where she came from, what baddie would get on a bus and leave their dog there. As we all know, puppies are born in numbers, I remember a few years back, I saw a picture of a dog from Edinburgh that had an uncanny resemblance to my girl but that dog had the classic floppy beagle eras, instead of the satellite dishes mine had, but puppies of mixed breeds tend to be all different. Just wondering if anyone has seen/had a similar dog, that might have been her sibling, and if yes, how did you get them? or where did you see them? These dogs would now be senior dogs, at least 12 years old. I've been thinking about my girl recently and the wee mystery around where she came from. If you have any info, please share. If not, thank you for taking the time to read this. by UselessPaint (Sat 13th Mar 2021 6:06pm)
  • Thank you. I've been wondering for a decade who would not want such a sweet and loving animal. Its been very hard, I've struggled a lot, the first year was the hardest. I loved the company and taking care. I've opened my heart up and rescued a snake, the care and routine has really helped me process my emotions. I understand your appreciation of wild animals, it is so wonderful to see them going out their business, just living life, nature is a beautiful thing that gets overlooked and taken for granted by many, it is good to know there are people out there appreciating it and all the life it brings. by UselessPaint (Sat 13th Mar 2021 6:44pm)
  • I haven't used facebook in 5 years, but will definitely go look up groups like that. Seems like a great idea! I would like to think the previous owner would want their missing dog back, I will keep that hope. As far as I know she did not have a collar, which is a pretty clear indicator, but I'll stay positive. by UselessPaint (Sat 13th Mar 2021 7:14pm)
  • I didn't really elaborate on that part. Just wanna correct the story, I dont want assumptions floating around. I was in primary school at that time, me and my mum were living together with a guy that worked as a bus driver for First, I'll call him M. He used to mainly drive no.2 or no.60 and while he was driving, a guy with a dog got on the bus, took the leash and collar off and then he himself got off a few stops later. The dog wandered around the bus, M noticed this, asked the passengers and they confirmed the situation. He took the dog into his cabin and had her there until the end of his shift and then brought her home. My family and M split on bad terms have nave not spoken in years. by UselessPaint (Sun 14th Mar 2021 12:46pm)
  • It all comes down to the people living here, unfortunately many don't care. I work in a fast food drive thru and the amount of litter scattered around even a mile or more away, it's just lazy bustards that would much rather throw stuff out of their window instead of holding onto it for a few minutes and throwing it in the bin when they get home. I think it's the little things in life that count. I get looks like I am an alien when I stop my bike and pick up rubbish and throw it in a nearby bin or when I brush away broken glass on pavement to the side so cyclists like myself and dog walkers don't have a bad time. It saddens me that this is the state of a city I live in. And no matter how many times a street cleaner comes around, people are just so foul that the place looks filthy not long after. by UselessPaint (Sat 21st Aug 2021 7:44pm)
  • Neon gecko definitely isn't a good place to shop. Should still be around miraculously. Went in there when I got my fist snake, and I was was just looking for good substrate that could hold humidity well and some simple advice. The guy looked like he couldn't be arsed and gruffly pointed me in the direction of a substrate that was the opposite of what I needed. Not going back there. by UselessPaint (Sat 21st Aug 2021 10:41pm)
  • Thanks, I know of the place and I do plan on visiting eventually. Just wanted to see if there are any hidden gems that someone knows about. by UselessPaint (Sat 21st Aug 2021 11:50pm)
  • Honestly no even sure how this place is still open. Nobody has said anything decent to say about it 😂 by UselessPaint (Sun 22nd Aug 2021 10:29am)
