  • As a Glasgow native I never understood the hype until I spent a week in London... by alm31 (Wed 3rd Feb 2021 5:18pm)
  • As a 23 year old woman I wouldnt stay there personally, but I don’t think it’s fair to blanket dismiss an area either. I’d ask around about particular streets etc but there’s definitely better areas. Not sure how well serviced an area it is by trains etc too by alm31 (Wed 3rd Feb 2021 5:38pm)
  • Apparently the Tesco at st rollox shuts the cigarette counter but I’m sure I’ve managed to get them before, need to try after 10 tonight so just estimating my luck by alm31 (Thu 11th Feb 2021 8:45pm)
  • I know we are living in a pandemic and it is stressful but like chill by alm31 (Thu 11th Feb 2021 11:01pm)
  • Hopefully natural selection will just kick in with these sort of groups by alm31 (Sun 21st Feb 2021 7:45pm)
  • Yeah it’s interesting. Wonder if it will calm down at any point or if this is just Glasgow now. by alm31 (Fri 26th Nov 2021 1:26pm)
  • This makes total sense tbf, seems like the wrong type of landlords have been pushed out of market… by alm31 (Fri 26th Nov 2021 1:25pm)
  • Literally this. We are trying to secure somewhere before Xmas and same situation. Message properties up an hour ago and viewings booked up. We have been trying to deal with landlords directly via Gumtree and Open rent and communication does seem to be a bit faster so that may help but comes with own disadvantages. I hope you get it sorted soon! by alm31 (Fri 26th Nov 2021 1:25pm)
  • Now just happy if there hasn't been a murder within a 1 mile radius in a while by alm31 (Fri 26th Nov 2021 2:11pm)
  • Suppose everywhere in Glasgow area goes through it's moments doesn't it. Don't think the area gets a lot of investment but I could be wrong? Whats your thoughts on Shettleston these days? Offered viewing there tomorrow and heard its improved a bit over past few years? by alm31 (Fri 26th Nov 2021 2:27pm)
  • Is this true for people under 18? I worked there when I was 17 and was paid £4.10… that was 2014 (ish) mind you. Brilliant if they have come that far in short period of time. by alm31 (Wed 1st Dec 2021 7:07pm)
  • Thanks for the reply mate really appreciate it. The model is a Mylek heater, which seems to be different to the videos I’ve watched / have been sent in the thread. The power is on and lights are on indicating that the heater is working the issue is there is no heat output. There’s been an issue with one of them before we moved in a few weeks ago according to the landlord. Could it be possible that the issue is that the fuses in the fuse box (memera 3) need replaced? Because both heaters were working and after the power trip we had, both are on but not working so it’s making me think it’s a greater issue than just that each individual heater is broken if that makes sense? I’ll of course bow to your superior knowledge on the matter haha by alm31 (Wed 29th Dec 2021 4:22pm)
  • So we had meter readings when we moved in and then submitted new ones yesterday (Octopus ask you to do it monthly to true up), as soon as we done that account went in to minus. We are doing a daily count at the moment so we can see if it seems ridiculous, unless the Hydro is plugged in to a secret plug somewhere I've no idea how we are burning through that much haha by alm31 (Fri 18th Feb 2022 1:48pm)
  • Thanks for this. We do have an electrician coming out being arranged my landlord at the moment so will make sure this gets checked. The usage is mental though guy at the energy company assumed we lived in a big house, not a 2 bed flat. Is an EPC something the electrician could do? Landlord is saying last tenants had no isssues with high bills so I'm a bit like wtf. Not sure if you'd know but how much damage would it cost if we had left our water storage heater on for a 3-4 hours a day rather than the 1 hour it should take? Worried thats our fuck up too. Our rates look like this... DAY RATE 28.68 p/kWh NIGHT RATE 19.32 p/kWh STANDING CHARGE 24.95p/day by alm31 (Fri 18th Feb 2022 1:52pm)
  • Also we do have meter readings from the day we moved in and unfortunately they do seem to be accurate, energy company have said they can get someone out to look at metre but will charge us £70 for that by alm31 (Fri 18th Feb 2022 1:56pm)
  • Thanks, we have an electrician coming out to look at boiler soon landlord says. We felt there was an issue with it a wee while ago but weren't sure as neither of us had these things before, but if it's on for more than a couple of hours the taps get hot to touch, condensation in hall etc and the timer thermostat seems to do nothing so does seem like there's an issue there but likely our own fault for not realising... by alm31 (Fri 18th Feb 2022 1:55pm)
  • Yes going to do this today! Thank you by alm31 (Fri 18th Feb 2022 2:08pm)
  • So we are fully electric and no gas at all to be fair but still seems crazy... by alm31 (Fri 18th Feb 2022 2:08pm)
  • Aye I honestly think this is it too. Boiled a years worth of water probs in 2 months... once you know you know but feck me no wonder you never find these things in new builds Thanks for confirming my fears haha by alm31 (Fri 18th Feb 2022 2:15pm)
  • A bit worried it's been our own doing as water is heated via electrics and not being used to storage heater I think we have been leaving on for too long.... do hope there is something amiss but aye have a bad feeling it's been on us by alm31 (Fri 18th Feb 2022 2:31pm)
  • See I'm starting to think the other flats in this block are all single glazing so wonder if we're the same... be really surprised though as not sandstone or anything and not the prettiest of buildings! by alm31 (Fri 18th Feb 2022 2:30pm)

  • great advice thank you by alm31 (Fri 18th Feb 2022 5:46pm)
  • yeah we do - have a day and a night rate by alm31 (Fri 18th Feb 2022 5:51pm)
  • >weekedipie1 yeah it is we are top floor of 8 flats by alm31 (Fri 18th Feb 2022 5:50pm)
  • if they are I'll be demanding freebies for life by alm31 (Fri 18th Feb 2022 5:59pm)
  • UPDATE: Had electrician out, the heaters we were told were storage heaters are actually panel heaters (cheap for landlord to put in, very expensive to run), the timer in our water heater also broken, we are also supposed to benefit from an off-peak meter however turns out that is not working so have been paying higher day rate for all usage. Basically, as little as possible has been invested in to making this flat energy efficient To conclude.... will be moving next winter by alm31 (Tue 1st Mar 2022 1:44pm)
  • SO have just had an electrician out, turn out our off-peak meter isn't set up correctly so we are burning everything on day rate, we had also been told the heaters were storage heaters but are in fact panel heaters so more expensive to run, timer also broke in our water boiler... turns out its just a very energy inefficient flat by alm31 (Tue 1st Mar 2022 1:41pm)
  • Oh great I’ll have a wee search about thank you! by alm31 (Tue 13th Sep 2022 1:54pm)

  • DELETED We are in Partick too and find the local (walking distance) gym/class offerings are quite poor. CrossFit Southside is probably your best bet. I stand to be corrected though if I've missed places! ClassPass might be worth looking at for trying out different places. by alm31 (Sun 2nd Jul 2023 12:51pm)
  • don't know if it was just a coincidence but the place was totally dead whenever I walked past after all the drama a wee while back, do wonder if it was the final nail in the coffin by alm31 (Sat 7th Oct 2023 5:18pm)
