  • DELETED All right, this is getting more replies than I expected! I live in Bishopbriggs, which we were told by a friend was a decent place. I'm in a lecture atm but I'll come back and reply later. Thanks for the reassurance guys! by buckanjaer (Tue 18th May 2021 9:57am)
  • DELETED Nope, it's in Briggs. Got a friend who lives in Springburn who said Briggs would be quiter. My girlfriend lived with them for a while and there was someone lighting dumptsters on fire on a regular basis--but the they didn't seem to have to deal with the nightly shouting as much. by buckanjaer (Tue 18th May 2021 10:29am)
  • DELETED I certainly don't mean to put people in a box. This was a post made in pure frustration. I was seeking reassurance not because this is my "opinion" but because it is my experience and it sucks. I realise that it likely isn't completely representative, but it's been my life for 1,5 years and I'm going a bit crazy. by buckanjaer (Tue 18th May 2021 10:33am)
  • I'd be inclined to agree. by buckanjaer (Tue 18th May 2021 10:30am)
  • DELETED Sounds awful. I did call the police--45 min later the guy had gone away and since the police hadn't turned up so I called them back up to cancel, since I didn't want to stay up all night. I have a friend who lives nearby. He's the nicest guy you could imagine and he's also been promoting Glasgow as a super friendly city where everyone will help you out. I wish that was my experience! by buckanjaer (Tue 18th May 2021 10:44am)
  • DELETED About 10 mins out from the centre one direction, 10 mins off Auchinairn Road another. A lot of it has been colourful locals living on the same street. by buckanjaer (Tue 18th May 2021 10:59am)
  • DELETED To be fair, the police were over all the time on our last street. There was a particular person who was extremely antisocial and violent. Ruined windows in their flat, evidence of fire, left bloodtrails in the snow after beating people up, bragged about stabbing someone in the leg, etc. Police were over, but they never seemed to get enough on him to actually do anything. by buckanjaer (Tue 18th May 2021 11:01am)
  • DELETED Education + didn't really know much of the city's bad rep before coming here. Have friends here who really hype it up as a great place. by buckanjaer (Tue 18th May 2021 11:05am)
  • DELETED We were planning on moving again down the line seeing as the 2nd half of the degree is in Edinburgh, but may consider another move sooner rather than later. I've actually lived in Bristol, didn't get any bad vibes from it. Sure it was busy and a lil' dirty, but never had any trouble there. by buckanjaer (Tue 18th May 2021 11:26am)
  • DELETED About 10 min off of Auchinairn Road (where it runs by the Coop and the golf course). by buckanjaer (Tue 18th May 2021 11:48am)
  • DELETED Lived in a few different places, but we evaded the some of the rougher outskirts. Heard the Fishponds weren't great and that there were some attacks at night in the large greens. Honestly, you're not far off. I had no plans to move to Glasgow myself initially, it was very spur of the moment when I had to find a compromise with my girlfriend. Also found a degree here that looked good. I honestly knew very little about Glasgow before moving, and that was a mistake. Like I said though, had a friend here who was really singing its praises and he never mentioned anyhing like what we've experienced. by buckanjaer (Tue 18th May 2021 11:47am)
  • DELETED Thanks. We just moved house but we're definitely keen to move again as soon as we can. Had some trouble with landlords and references though, might have to stick it out for a while here to get a decent reference. by buckanjaer (Tue 18th May 2021 11:50am)
  • We've already moved once in those 18 months and moving isn't that easy for us, who's generalising now? Think you're just touchy. by buckanjaer (Tue 18th May 2021 12:40pm)
  • DELETED Post code is G64! But hey, still looking to move. Again. by buckanjaer (Tue 18th May 2021 2:09pm)
  • DELETED You a Glaswegian or moved here? :) by buckanjaer (Tue 18th May 2021 2:06pm)
  • Well, the 2nd half of my degree is in Edinburgh... by buckanjaer (Tue 18th May 2021 2:11pm)
  • DELETED Constant screaming containing threats of knife violence has unnerved me, yes. by buckanjaer (Tue 18th May 2021 3:01pm)
  • I wish, then this wouldn't bother me would it. by buckanjaer (Tue 18th May 2021 5:10pm)
  • Thanks for sharing. We actually came here on the advice of a local, but I guess we picked the wrong couple of streets to live on. Personally we had one terrible experience with private landlord with direct contact, and now a slightly better (though far from ideal) experience with an agency. by buckanjaer (Tue 18th May 2021 5:15pm)
  • Thank you! by buckanjaer (Tue 18th May 2021 5:24pm)
  • DELETED I don't love you back so no need to poorly veil your condensation. ❤️ by buckanjaer (Tue 18th May 2021 5:28pm)
  • I certainly will, thank you! by buckanjaer (Tue 18th May 2021 5:43pm)
  • DELETED Just asked them fairly politely if they wouldn't mind keeping it down a bit as they were living it up on the street. Learned my lesson. Close the windows and put in earplugs next time. by buckanjaer (Tue 18th May 2021 6:41pm)
  • DELETED We haven't been antagonising anyone before and this was the first time we spoke to these neighbours. Sheesh, hope they'll let it go. by buckanjaer (Tue 18th May 2021 7:00pm)
  • DELETED Postcode is G64, but it's pretty much inbetween Bishopbriggs and Auchinairn. Like I've said, we came here on recommendation on a local friend, trusting his judgement to be sound. All I can do is keep my head down and cross my fingers about these people until we've managed to move somewhere else. by buckanjaer (Tue 18th May 2021 7:37pm)
  • DELETED What do you advise? Just to be ready to call the police? Do you try and talk to them if they come back or just ignore? Might just put a knife under my bed tonight. by buckanjaer (Tue 18th May 2021 9:09pm)
  • DELETED Appreciate your comment, thanks. by buckanjaer (Tue 18th May 2021 9:18pm)
  • DELETED Thanks, that's fair, don't go out at night here so hopefully that shouldn't be an issue. by buckanjaer (Tue 18th May 2021 9:28pm)
  • DELETED You make it sound so easy, my friend. We just moved to the current street 2 months ago, we're half broke and don't drive. But yes, the moment we are able to we're out of here. by buckanjaer (Tue 18th May 2021 9:50pm)
