My distinctly posh South England accent with Midlands y'right 'duck and West country luuvver and various interntionalisms like cell phone thrown in, from growing up to Midlands parents in the South West then living abroad for a long time get me side eye pretty much everywhere tbf, Its almost offensive if I just get no comments or looks at this point. also - ??? > nippy sweeties

I've seen these everywhere - it was a bit weird going into a fags-and-booze corner shop and there also being fresh bread but also awesome

I wonder if any kind of analysis has been done as to the various causes. People being dickheads is a key one, but limited waste collections and wind/ unsecured bins have gotta be up there as well, and more easily fixable. I just moved here, I've never lived anywhere in the UK where sooo many people don't pick up their dog shit. I would support anyone doing anything meaningful. I actually felt guilty not reaching out to the guy organising litter picking. I can pick up around my building but it feels so fucking futile.

Yes, kinda - sound "proof" is a bit misleading sound insulation - and it needs to be laid wall to wall its 1000% better than some of the more expensive alternative (get the 11mm min stuff and look at the decibel rating) - I used this plus some insanely expensive lead impregnated thck rubber in an old victorian - you could literally see light from below before we put it down. After they could be dancing to music on the tv and we couldn' t hear it.

if you're coming from a large city like Bristol/ London where commuting end to end of 45+ min is normal you'll be fine and somewhere within 30min even you'll be fine. Everyone here seems to think 30mins is far and is surprised when I say I commute to Edinburgh from East Glasgow, but is easier, cheaper than any commute I've had in England for not dissimilar salary
