  • Hang on though how do you get from the Maryhill / Queen Margaret Drive area down to Finnieston now then? All the way down Byres Road and along Argyle Street rather than down Kelvin Way? That's not going to do much for pollution / congestion. by dgrierso (Wed 17th Jun 2020 11:36am)
  • Yup ... I’m aware that increasing road capacity increases traffic but I’m not sure that the inverse is true. Does it decrease traffic or does it just increase congestion / pollution? That’s a bigger debate. by dgrierso (Wed 17th Jun 2020 12:13pm)
  • That only works for people that are residents of an area. If I’ve already driven into the city from elsewhere to QMD or Maryhill area and then need to go to the Finnieston or Govan area you’re not going to walk there and back. Public transport? Okay so walk down to Hillhead, subway to Kelvinhall and then walk all the way along Argyle Street? Again not really functional. There are plenty of businesses in all of the areas I’ve mentioned so it’s a valid case. by dgrierso (Wed 17th Jun 2020 12:20pm)
  • Ah ... that doesn’t really make sense. _If we make driving more difficult then that’ll make driving easier for the people who need to drive?_ Besides public transport ends up being impacted by this as well. Where do you expect the buses to go if the roads are closed? by dgrierso (Wed 17th Jun 2020 2:04pm)
  • But less open roads = more congestion. All I’m saying is that it’s not a simple equation but something with all sorts of nuances and unexpected knock-on effects. by dgrierso (Wed 17th Jun 2020 2:07pm)
  • I agree 100% with everything you’ve written. I guess the issue is that the majority of my car journeys are greater than that 5 miles and so just get frustrated when they do things at a local level without consideration for the impact to non-local folks. Another example are the bus gates and bus only streets which were introduced in the city centre as a congestion measure. However, the poor signage allow people to suggest that there’s a cash element to it as well. by dgrierso (Wed 17th Jun 2020 2:27pm)
  • On the anniversary of David Bowie’s death; lying in bed reading news articles about him I remembered this phenomenal tribute which was made to him. Everything has been shit in the world since he’s gone, the only explanation is that the man who fell to Earth was holding it all together. by dgrierso (Sun 10th Jan 2021 10:26am)
