  • Thanks rs2415, doing it on my phone worked! by evensjw (Fri 23rd Jul 2021 11:39am)
  • Yeah, was doing that but was still giving me errors. Did it on my phone instead and that worked by evensjw (Fri 23rd Jul 2021 11:40am)
  • I second that. If nothing comes up let’s pick a place and make it happen. by evensjw (Thu 14th Oct 2021 10:05pm)
  • Moving here, Charing X and St. George’s X definitely confused me, but of course it makes sense that before an expressway carved through them they were major street junctions. by evensjw (Thu 14th Oct 2021 10:41pm)
  • How do I make the most of COP26? I live in Hillhead. My mornings are free. I looked at green zone events but they seem like they are aimed at the ‘general public’ or just plain greenwashing. I will attend at least one march. I feel like I should be trying to meet interesting people, finding opportunities to get engaged with positive actions to boost renewable energy, waste reduction etc. I’m not the best at networking but I will regret it if an event of this magnitude is on my doorstep and I just sit at home. by evensjw (Fri 29th Oct 2021 9:30pm)
  • I had a 3.50pm appt about a week ago. Showed up a little early. Waited about 10min. Wife had hers around 7pm. A bit more of a wait for her but only because there was a group in from a nursing home or something that needed a little extra assistance and time. by evensjw (Fri 17th Dec 2021 11:01am)
  • Drygate. by evensjw (Fri 31st Dec 2021 1:23pm)
  • We had a similar experience. We had read that maybe if you get in there with a quick offer you can snap something up. But the solicitor wouldn’t go for it and I didn’t feel sufficiently arrogant to tell them I knew better with my zero experience of buying a house in Scotland. by evensjw (Tue 15th Feb 2022 9:14pm)
  • How, though? If you make the same offer at closing and it is the best offer, what is different? The seller was holding out hope that they would get better offers, but if they don’t, then you win. Getting an offer in before closing seems like an opportunity to range find a little bit. Although I imagine all sellers are being told to go to closing unless someone walks up with an offer 50% over home report. So you probably don’t learn much about what a seller might be looking for. by evensjw (Tue 15th Feb 2022 9:11pm)
  • https://www.gov.uk/check-uk-visa You probably don’t need a visa to visit the UK. Your bigger question should be whether you can get back into Belgium from outside Schengen. From what I can find, a type D visa is multi entry and I assume you now have your residence card so it probably won’t be an issue. by evensjw (Thu 17th Mar 2022 9:49am)
  • This is the correct answer. Heard a group of Canadians talking about their cruise that started in Iceland. I’m sure lot of Americans doing the same by evensjw (Thu 9th Jun 2022 10:00pm)
  • You can get a train for Helensburgh from Edinburgh waverley that stops at Charing cross. The closest underground stations to Charing cross are cowcaddens or st George’s cross. by evensjw (Mon 22nd Aug 2022 10:20am)
  • !thanks , done! by evensjw (Tue 30th Aug 2022 10:49am)
  • So, it’s the e-bike that costs £30/day and to be honest, that doesn’t seem like too bad of a price to hire an e-bike for 24h. But like a lot of things the pricing seems kinda complicated and it’s easy to fuck up and fall foul of the way the pricing is structured. Most of these schemes are designed to encourage you to ‘return’ the bike while you are not using it rather than holding onto it all day. by evensjw (Wed 31st Aug 2022 8:48pm)

  • Yeah just responded to say, don’t put in more lighting. I did once walk through the dark parts of the park at 1am. There were some kids scurrying around in the shadows. They were there to do their thing, I was there to do mine. If you don’t feel safe, go around, it only takes a couple minutes more. The most useful cut through it Kelvin way which is well lit and in my opinion very safe since there are long lines of sight by evensjw (Wed 21st Sep 2022 9:00pm)
  • I use the Glasgow Taxis app and pre book. Done several trips to the airport in the small hours of the morning and never had an issue. by evensjw (Mon 12th Dec 2022 12:20am)
  • Sounds like the cold water supply to the boiler could be frozen. The heating is a closed system so isn’t impacted. Where is your boiler located? Could be in a location that involves the supply running through a poorly insulated area. And could be that other flats have the same problem. by evensjw (Wed 14th Dec 2022 11:43pm)
  • I thought this had got better. Worked for a medical gasses company about 20 years ago and was archiving some journal articles. I remember the one about testing the anesthetic properties of gasses by administering them to rodents, putting the little guy on a hot plate and timing how long before he got off. Seemed medieval even back then by evensjw (Fri 16th Dec 2022 9:35pm)

  • There is limited blue badge parking in the grounds, I think accessible through the Queen Margaret Drive entrance, although just dropping off at that same entrance would probably be just as short a walk. by evensjw (Tue 24th Jan 2023 9:53pm)
  • I just had JSL plumbing replace a broken electric shower. Installation cost about £90. Came out same day at no cost, diagnosed, went and got the replacement, installed all in a couple of hours. Straightforward advice, no sales pitch. Very satisfied. Highly recommend. by evensjw (Tue 16th May 2023 10:44am)
  • Just perfect weather conditions for it. A lot of sound travelling well through dense damp air and reflecting off the clouds. Can’t believe they still play Plug in Baby at shows. by evensjw (Fri 23rd Jun 2023 10:24pm)
