  • I will be moving to Glasgow by August end and will be working on out of financial district(although its currently work from home) when things clear up. I am leaning towards renting in city centre, merchant city , finnestoun areas(partick - if i dont find any good places closer to work. I Prefer staying near work) which would be closer to work. how safe are these areas to travel from financial district by bicycle in the night. I see the general comments about how any prominent city in the world can be unsafe in similar manner and any misfortunate events can happen anywhere. I agree to all these and would not be doing anything stupid, will be avoiding anything potentially unsafe including avoid dodgy areas, non well lit streets in the night. i have lived in edinburgh previously have walked alone in may parts of the city in the night alone and have not encountered any problems. But opinions on Glasgow seems to differ hence i want to be clear on what to avoid. That being said, do let me know if there are any other things that i should look out for in general. The specific questions that i have are 1) I have been reading about how its unsafe to walk back from financial district post dark. If we use a bicycle that should be fine i hope? 2) Is moving around within merchant city safer than other main streets in the city centre during night( i keep hearing about areas to avoid in the city centre post dark but nothing about merchant city) by jgk_ingla (Mon 20th Jul 2020 11:12am)
  • i didnt get a chance to run my hands on statistics. Statistics doesnt give you a round up of personal experiences. If you run through other related posts here you can see a lot of comments about the city centre. Hence the specific questions and answers from the lots like timlardner helps because he is able to back up with his personal experience around the question that i have and that is whole point of putting up a post like this. Like i said even then im still leaning towards renting in the centre as like you said the chances are probably lesser than a small town. by jgk_ingla (Mon 20th Jul 2020 5:20pm)

  • Right so I've decided to get bike stands and get some rugs to help keep within my flat. Not sure about hooks as I will need to get consent from the owner. by jgk_ingla (Thu 26th Nov 2020 1:18am)
