  • I have two very fond friends, one originally from Poznan, and the other from Nairn, who lived here for years and miss Glasgow very much. I don't know anyone who regretted living here. by kristoffer10es (Mon 26th Jul 2021 8:16pm)

  • After a bit of digging, I found some text of the original article, but not the actual artist's impression. At least it was actually a real thing and not mental illness: NIGHTMARE ON THE BRIDGE February 3, 1994 | Daily Record, The / Sunday Mail (Glasgow, Scotland) Author/Byline: ROSS WILSON | Page: 1.3 | Section: NEWS 300 Words The Kingston Bridge IS in danger of falling down, and that's official. The news will be given to Strathclyde councillors today - FOUR YEARS after the Record told you. And graphically illustrated above by our artist is the nightmare experts fear could happen unless immediate action is taken. It would only happen if the mid-span was overloaded with heavy traffic, and the end spans lifted off their bearings with only light traffic on them. Officials will today stress that the bridge at present is safe. But they want immediate safeguards which include: l Huge plastic tanks being placed on the ends of the bridge and then filled with water to stop them lifting. l The main span being strengthened to stop it sinking further. l Closing one of the five lanes completely and restricting another to local, light traffic. l Banning very heavy lorries from the on and off ramps. The cost of strengthening the crumbling bridge and its approach ramps will be an amazing #35million, on top of the #18million already spent. The bill to knock it down and rebuild it will be a staggering #83million - plus another #6million in professional fees. And, of course, there would be the huge cost of all the traffic chaos. The full dossier on the Kingston Bridge's problems will be handed to the region roads committee. The councillors will be shocked to find it states the bridge fails to meet the standards laid down in the Scottish Office bridge manual. And the full council will have to face the fact that they can't afford the huge costs of repairs. When the Record first revealed the defects in 1990, councillors accused us of ''scaremongering'' and said it was perfectly safe. One even described the repairs as ''routine''. Today they will have to face up to the harsh facts. by kristoffer10es (Wed 22nd Dec 2021 3:53pm)

  • It's Glasgow. Our accent just sounds aggressive. Even if we are saying "would you like my train ticket, i now longer need it and while I am here, here is some money for a cup of tea" to others it can sound like "give me your fucking wallet" by kristoffer10es (Sun 23rd Apr 2023 8:02pm)
  • Should we not be asking why there are so many 'junkies' in Glasgow? Rather than taking aim at them, why not point our frustration and anger at our MPs, MSPs and Councillors for their ambivalence towards them? If we, the general public battle against those less fortunate than us, then we are doing them all a massive favour by kristoffer10es (Sun 23rd Apr 2023 8:16pm)
