  • Central Station, last night was the worst I’ve seen it so far, I guess as a few streets that they might have been on are cordoned off. by matface82 (Sun 28th Jun 2020 4:17pm)
  • More cases of folks overdosing in the toilets and on the station concourse as well. Helped stop a random jake stealing from the co-op recently, there getting bold. by matface82 (Sun 28th Jun 2020 4:20pm)
  • Heard stories like this too. I guess without crowds to passively beg from, desperation is driving them to chase after anyone they can find. It’s like a dry forest floor waiting for a spark, never mind the stabbings and protests adding to the mix. by matface82 (Sun 28th Jun 2020 4:36pm)
  • Yeah keep your wits about you when waiting, you can usually see them shuffling towards your way in advance. One guy in a doorway on the other side of the street watched me walk to the bus stop, then I watched him drag himself down to the crossing, over it and back up the street just to ask me for ‘50p for his bus fare’. The guy was swaying while trying to speak. Fun times. by matface82 (Sun 28th Jun 2020 4:48pm)
  • To a point. Being harassed by a woman for ‘money so we can buy ourselves a wee bottle of white wine’ is definitely beyond that point. There are shelters for them to go to, they just have to commit to getting clean first which some are reluctant to do. That’s on them. by matface82 (Sun 28th Jun 2020 6:24pm)
  • Sorry. I can’t buy ‘being scared of Covid’ as an excuse, a person who loses themself in smack or alcohol is obviously not worried about their health anyway. Staying here : Glasgow City Mission, 20 Crimea Street, Glasgow, G2 8PW. Is far better than slumming for scraps on the streets, there are more shelters beyond this one too. by matface82 (Sun 28th Jun 2020 6:33pm)
  • Well, not voting Tory ever again would be a start, not that we do up here anyway by matface82 (Sun 28th Jun 2020 6:35pm)
  • Well, to be fair I did state ‘begging homeless’ in my post, I suppose I could have just said addict. by matface82 (Sun 28th Jun 2020 6:40pm)
  • Well then. That’s depressing. Here on the Central Station concourse there’s a contactless homeless charity donation point. It’s easy to donate and the money will go where it’s needed. I won’t be emptying my pockets in the streets like crumbs for pigeons, but the donating point I have used and encourage all of to also donate. by matface82 (Sun 28th Jun 2020 7:02pm)
  • I think the government on a local level are too busy building student accommodation en masse to care about social housing, sadly. As for rent, it seems that every boomers retirement plan is ‘become a landlord.’ by matface82 (Sun 28th Jun 2020 7:13pm)
  • Never mind just smelling it. That alley coming off Buchanan in the heat recently, my feet were sticking to the damn floor, like I was walking on a nightclub floor the morning after. Thank god for the rain. by matface82 (Sun 28th Jun 2020 7:19pm)
  • The TJ Hughes alley is notorious though, it’s famously putrid even before covid. If you’re just walking by and the wind is blowing through it, then god help you. It could be bottled and used as a chemical weapon. by matface82 (Sun 28th Jun 2020 7:28pm)
  • You don’t cure a disease by concentrating on a specific symptom. Homelessness as an issue may be devolved, but the causes are not. The nhs is uk wide, if more money was pumped into mental health and addiction help, instead of letting the tories bleed the service like a stick pig, then the situation would already be improved. by matface82 (Sun 28th Jun 2020 7:51pm)
  • Well. Damn. I guess there all terrible. I don’t think there is a more left leaning political option than the SNP. Guess that’s it then, time to head to the Highlands and Islands and await the apocalypse. by matface82 (Sun 28th Jun 2020 8:10pm)
  • Don’t give them excuses, he wasn’t stealing sandwiches, he was stealing wine bottles. He was shoplifting scum who doesn’t get a free pass because of bad life decisions. by matface82 (Sun 28th Jun 2020 9:55pm)
  • Yeah, I also equated myself to a bag of chips mate. Metaphors a bit difficult for you then? Or do I think I actually place myself on equal ground to a fried potato? by matface82 (Sun 28th Jun 2020 10:02pm)
  • Embarrassing myself for not supporting a junkie supermarket sweep programme? Alright mate. by matface82 (Sun 28th Jun 2020 10:13pm)
  • I’ll simplify it for you. Waiting at that bus stop I feel like a piece of meat, a potential source of sustenance, a mark, a target. A step closer to that next elusive fix, next sip of alcohol, the next escape. EVERY DAY. Empathy? I have empathy to a point, but until you have a junkie in your face, begging for cash, shaking, half dead and uncomfortably close, following you down the damn street, daily, you have no right to tell me how to feel about them. Would you have me strip naked and give them my worldly belongings? by matface82 (Sun 28th Jun 2020 10:11pm)
  • Mate. I don’t feel safe out there. I don’t like being followed and I don’t like being harassed. Is it really that hard to understand? The city centre has a problem with pro-active beggars. by matface82 (Sun 28th Jun 2020 11:14pm)
  • Umm...the guy running out of Tesco with a backpack of unpaid goods? by matface82 (Sun 28th Jun 2020 11:36pm)
  • They could very well have homes for all I know. Their state of living isn’t really the issue, it’s the harassment of every bugger in a mile radius for change. Not even hiding it in some cases, openly stating it’s needed to buy wine. Actively crossing the street to cut you off, getting in your face in a pandemic. I don’t care how much sympathy you have, dealing with it for months WILL grind you down. Fine, swap out the words I used for nicer ones, the point still stands. by matface82 (Mon 29th Jun 2020 1:40am)
  • Shoplifters = Scum It’s a hard statement to refute, given the law and the overall rules of a functioning society also support it. ‘Sorry officer, you caught me and I did steal it, but I’ve had a rough couple of years so you should let me go. Have some empathy?’ by matface82 (Mon 29th Jun 2020 1:50am)
  • Shoplifters = Scum If I see anyone trying to steal in the shops around me, I will continue to stop them. I don’t tolerate crime happening in front of me, no matter who it is. I am morally repulsed by criminals, whether it’s the billionaire media lies merchant or the guy stealing goods. Don’t steal. by matface82 (Mon 29th Jun 2020 9:51am)
  • Listen to yourself, really. What is your message here? This isn’t the purge, crime is crime, break the law and get the consequences. Just to be clear, if I saw Rupert murdoch shoplifting I would stop him too, I don’t care who it is, the who is not important. Your damn right I’ve been programmed from a young age to be repulsed by theft, it’s the bare minimum for being part of a functioning community. All shoplifters are scum, no matter who they are, where there from or their financial status. Stopping twisting my words and squeezing in your own context, I’ve been clear, it’s not just some shoplifters I have a problem with, it’s all. Now take your strawman out with you. by matface82 (Mon 29th Jun 2020 11:17am)
  • You really want to keep going down the list of hypotheticals to reach an example of ‘acceptable’ theft? I’d be in foster care, social would have stepped in well before this, she’d be in a shelter or at least dealing with a food bank. Get real. by matface82 (Mon 29th Jun 2020 12:12pm)
  • Unfortunately it’s all over the place. I’ve already lost my family to Facebook, it’s a cesspit of toxic hate that spills over into real world interactions. Good on you for stepping in, protect the vulnerable and let the bullying bigots know they can’t spew their hate unchallenged. by matface82 (Wed 1st Jul 2020 9:54am)
  • Alright pal. by matface82 (Thu 2nd Jul 2020 12:52am)

  • Here at Glasgow Central is fine. On behalf of all staff, please wear a mask down there and try to aim for the bowl and not the floor. by matface82 (Sat 11th Jul 2020 6:15pm)
