  • > Probably way less than California but cost of living will also be much much smaller. Definitely. Not many places offer salaries as high as California, even in the US. Switzerland is probably one of the few other places. Thanks! by mountain__pew (Sun 29th Aug 2021 6:31pm)
  • Not really a choice I'm having to make. My work visa in the US is expiring and we are having some issues with the renewal. And to put things into perspective, my current salary is $100,000 and $70,000 after tax. I'm paying close to $30,000 for rent a year. So if I end up getting the job in Glasgow for 40-45k, the difference is not as dramatic as the figures suggest, especially after converting the currency. by mountain__pew (Sun 29th Aug 2021 7:07pm)
  • For sure. It's a lab based position. by mountain__pew (Sun 29th Aug 2021 7:05pm)
  • Our company is a large IVD manufacturer and I'd consider myself in the field of biomolecular, so that's good to hear. You may already have an idea what company it is. Will try to negotiate for sure! Especially that I'll fit right in with my current and previous experiences. Plus, I'm already a current employee at the company, just on a different site. by mountain__pew (Sun 29th Aug 2021 7:10pm)
  • That's actually what I was getting paid as a postdoc here in the US. It's a standard for postdocs across most of the US. After a little more research, I think £40k-£45k will be a good range to ask. Thanks! by mountain__pew (Mon 30th Aug 2021 5:38pm)
  • For sure. Even with 40-42k, I think I will be quite happy. I'm also only getting 3 weeks of PTO (plus 9 days of public holiday) and I think it's 5-6 weeks of PTO, plus bank holiday? So that'll make up for some of the differences in wages too. by mountain__pew (Wed 1st Sep 2021 5:50pm)
  • Not sure if you saw it, but I sent you a message on Reddit chat! by mountain__pew (Sun 5th Sep 2021 4:20am)
