  • Yeah it's definitely only for a certain type, giving up everything for a risky bet isn't for most. However, I think Glasgow could use moving away from the whole crab bucket mentality--it's fairly depressing, working hard and inventing things is far more fun! by satfam (Tue 31st May 2022 4:05pm)
  • Lol, that's just the beautiful game I suppose! by satfam (Tue 31st May 2022 4:13pm)
  • Yeah it's like a really long and deep bucket, but it has like a set of stairs that lead to the top so like every crab that's sat at the bottom can slowly crawl up the stairs one-by-one without being interrupted by other crabs! It's very innovative and efficient actually! 😁 by satfam (Tue 31st May 2022 4:29pm)
  • I was thinking you were winding me up, but if you were genuinely asking, I'm always inventing lots of things! Crab bucket mentality just means this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crab\_mentality by satfam (Tue 31st May 2022 4:37pm)
  • Haha, tough crowd! by satfam (Tue 31st May 2022 4:54pm)
  • That's an interesting (and fundamentally incorrect) interpretation. At no point did I say there is anything wrong with a corporate job, I have utmost respect for anyone working any job, whether it's for themselves or for someone else. The crab bucket mentality was referring to the attitude that because you don't like start-up culture everyone also has to dislike start-up culture--it has nothing to do with any type of work. I think it's human nature for people (especially young people) to want to better themselves, and I think start-ups are an excellent route to doing exactly that. But yes, like I said, I think you have to be a fairly intense person to want to start at start-up, so I completely understand that it's not for everyone, I'm not suggesting it is. All that I hope is there are a few people reading this who do want to build something, who crave the independence and intensity that comes with starting a company! by satfam (Tue 31st May 2022 5:23pm)
  • Nothing that would be known publicly, but I do have my own company (to me that counts as inventing something lol) by satfam (Tue 31st May 2022 5:27pm)
  • Nah, blockchain is a dreadful technology (in my opinion). I do like the future of virtual reality though! by satfam (Tue 31st May 2022 5:25pm)
