  • But does something like that come down to funding more than poor execution? by sidish333 (Mon 1st Aug 2022 10:00am)
  • It wasn't my original question, but I have a good idea as to what the person was asking. What doesn't make sense and I'll try clarify? by sidish333 (Mon 1st Aug 2022 10:00am)
  • Sorry I took it from r/GlasgowStartups because it wouldn’t let me crosspost. Hopefully they wont mind! by sidish333 (Mon 1st Aug 2022 9:56am)
  • I see your point, look at SF--it's the most innovative place on earth but the city is a mess, ironically. However, I think lessons can be learned from the failures of the past tech hubs, and we could improve on their mistakes. To me, if we were truly a tech hub, things like living costs, housing availability are just problems that present an opportunity for interesting new solutions. But I do see where you're coming from--the state of SF and London is not ideal at all. by sidish333 (Mon 1st Aug 2022 1:55pm)
  • Yeah I see what you're saying. I meant there is a distinct lack of VC actually in Glasgow, so it means looking to other cities or going with what's available in Glasgow (friends, family, old money, crowdfunding). What do you think we could do to solve that problem? Would it take starting an actual VC in Glasgow? What about a VC powered by the people of Glasgow in some way, perhaps an improved version of crowdfunding? by sidish333 (Mon 1st Aug 2022 1:51pm)
  • I don't think so. I've never heard of a big company starting and growing in Glasgow, lots of successful medium-sized companies, but nothing major or truly innovative. Building satellites is cool, but at the end of the day we are like 10 years late to the space trend compared to what's going on elsewhere. JP Morgan has a tech hub in basically every city on planet earth. It's not exactly innovative either. by sidish333 (Mon 1st Aug 2022 1:48pm)
  • I suppose so. I don't think it always needs to be that way though by sidish333 (Mon 1st Aug 2022 3:45pm)
  • So I can take your answer as pessimism? by sidish333 (Wed 3rd Aug 2022 8:56am)
  • That’s a really long-winded way of just saying poor culture and attitude by sidish333 (Wed 3rd Aug 2022 8:55am)
  • Whatever you would like to call the recent movement towards space, we’ve missed it by sidish333 (Wed 3rd Aug 2022 8:55am)
  • Don’t be sorry, you can laugh as you please. But there’s no irony to be had if it is potentially a trend by sidish333 (Wed 3rd Aug 2022 8:06pm)
