  • I moved here by accident. I came to Edinburgh on a weekend to see friends. Loved it and never came home. Met a boy classic I came to Glasgow because my boyfriend’s grandfather passed and we moved here so he could be closer to his family. We’re now living here in our own flat and it is awesome. However a bouncer had a man pull a gun on him directly across from our house. Also if I were to draw this city I would just draw scaffolding. It’s fucking everywhere. Ye’s just love scaffolding. We will move in a few years but for now it’s home. by theredditgotme (Fri 10th Jan 2020 3:50pm)

  • I went to an art school in Ireland and during my time (2014) the school director was sacked so similar reasons. I’d like to hear how the students feel about that college? Is it very bad experience? Is it good? Is it good if you come from a wealthy background? Has the school gone down the toilet? by theredditgotme (Sun 26th Jan 2020 6:27pm)
  • I agree, as a former student of an art school most of my peers were from upper middle class areas of my country and most of their parents could afford to pay their fees and ridiculous rents by theredditgotme (Sun 26th Jan 2020 11:29pm)

  • Glasgow is filthy. I think it’s stems from the fact no one gives a shit - the city buildings can looks oppressive and brutalist can and that can have an impact on people feeling depressed ( some of the buildings are gorgeous), the rest of the city is covered in scaffolding, and the rest after that is covered in graffiti or junkies. There are part of the city that are lovely but they are dotted around the city rather than feeling like the majority of it. I think it’s because of that that no one cares about the city. So they litter everywhere. by theredditgotme (Thu 16th Jul 2020 7:49am)

  • Thank you for commenting. This sheds a lot of light on the situation. Very sad about the shopkeeper. They were declaring themselves as Ahmadiyya Muslim on the banner. They posted a video on Facebook about how they are the true Islam campaign. Like I’m all for people believing in what they want... but like the risks seem to outweigh the benefits here 😅 That’s news they believe there’s a modern day prophet cutting about. You imagine it would be bigger deal like worldwide or something Like who is this prophet guy? Who is this contemporary prophet they believe in? by theredditgotme (Sun 7th Mar 2021 11:49am)
  • I’m really sick of the heroin addict character you see dotted around the place. I actually hate it so much. It gives me so much rage. But I really like refujee’s work. And there’s a new on on Sauchiehall st I like with black and neon green by theredditgotme (Tue 9th Mar 2021 11:22pm)

  • I was vegan for 10 years and a raw vegan for 18 months and I tried to live as ethically as possible and got more into the ethics. Now I’m not. Circumstances changed and I’m not. I’ve failed the cause. But one thing I learned when I was vegan, that you can’t win. The world is built on exploitation. A lot of vegan food is also seeped in contradictions. Coconut products are farmed by slave monkeys who are tied to vans with chains. The ones that aren’t are so expensive that only rich people could afford them. Also this goes for ALL coconut products. So if you buy Lush Coconut Shampoo, depending on how they get the coconut products, they could be supporting this, but you think you are doing well because you bought from an “ethical” brand - and this also applies to fair trade goods. Fair trade goods only need to have 1 fair trade ingredient to be considered fair trade. So the the vanilla bean paste in chocolate may be fair trade, but the cacao isn’t, or the sugar etc but that product still gets the fair trade banner. Avocado products require a lot of farm land to grow. Cacao/coffee products often farmed by slaves, or such cheap labor. Quinoa demand caused such pressure on Quinoa farmers to meet, that the had to use more land to farm the quinoa grains that rich vegans want. At one point to cope with the demand, quinoa was priced at about €13 per 500g. Vegans do not like to acknowledge the demand that the have on the world’s resources too. (I was one of them, and I was blissfully ignorant of how harmful these things are too, because the sound of my own righteous lifestyle deafened me to the plights of the world that I WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR ) A lot of machine parts are made by slave children. Your mobile phone or computer or electrics in your house probably have parts that were sources from China and made by slaves, underpaid workers. Tesla cars, marketed as the most eco car, mines lithium to the point it’s still costly. Who mines lithium? Well, poor people in Africa. Basically the trajectory, if you wish to live as ethically as possible and don’t wish to harm anyone is to become a breathtarian, and live in an off-grid mud hut, and only shower once a year... But you know what? I live my comforts. And I’m a shot person because I eat animal products now, and I get that. There’s literally nothing I can say that’s redeeming about that. And I struggle with the guilt everyday. But I had to do what was right for me. And that changed my life. And yeah, that’s totally selfish of me. But yeah, just my 2 cents by theredditgotme (Tue 16th Mar 2021 6:40pm)

  • Time to vacate the city… there’s better places out there anyway. They want us out, who needs em! by theredditgotme (Wed 9th Mar 2022 7:48pm)
  • Edinburgh is a much prettier, fancy, nice part to live in but it is ridiculously expensive. Glasgow is like Edinburgh’s drunken cousin who’s a riot - fun but in small doses. Not as pretty (it is pretty in parts, like where Batman was filmed) but yeah. It’s tough here for the rental market. I’ve lived in both Edinburgh and now Glasgow. I can’t wait to get back to Edinburgh. It’s just much more my kind of city. Edinburgh I was paying 400-500 to rent with housemates. Within city limits (not that bad), was by the Dean village for one place - beautiful. Now I pay 725 for my own flat with my partner on Sauchiehall street in Glasgow. We’ve a nice flat - it has underfloor heating- but it’s tiny. But moving is not an option because the market is crazy right now. Everyday there is a homeless person outside my door. Every weekend it is so loud on my street because this street is full of cheap bars. If I were you, I’d chose Edinburgh- portobello, or around the Edinburgh zoo, or if you can get in the city limits like EH11 and brunt’s field are really nice areas to live. If you are choosing Glasgow, the west end, finnieston are nice. by theredditgotme (Sat 12th Mar 2022 12:15pm)
